Title: Sockeye adds on Craigslist
Post by: firstlight on August 06, 2014, 07:33:16 PM
Just for kicks I typed in the word Sockeye on the local craigslist and was shocked by how many adds there are selling Sockeye.

They may well be perfectly legal but I kind of have my doubts.

I wonder if the authorities ever check these sales out?

I believe there was a post on this two days ago, the consensus was to just head down to the Steveston docks.

Yeah no doubt! I just had a look for fun and noticed bunch of ads looking to buy large quantities of fish. Not only the DFO but also hopefully CFIA is also on the case. How many of these are purchasing unsafe fish to sell to local restaurants I wonder?

I understand the whole craigslist add thing but have a question.
Can or has anyone legally posted on craigslist to sell fish?
For example can someone post saying come to the dock in Steveston and buy my fish?
How can the consumer know of if the person is selling legally, at Steveston i see a boat and buy im presuming he is legal.

Just looking for guide lines to buy legally.

The boats at the steveston docks and fishermans wharf have to have permits to sell their catch.
You will never find a "legal" sale off a buy and sell ad

vancook thank you

Is there a list of other warfs/docks of where I can buy salmon this season other then Steveston?
I like the fact that when I am buying from the local fisherman it is going into supporting them.

Economic opportunity fishery started for F/N at 6 last night, I imagine for sale now at the road side in Chilliwack. A legal chance for those that donot fish for sockeye to get some, may consider myself but have never bought a salmon, will check the price this PM.
