what kind of fish is this?

I caught a fish on the vedder today.It was bout 16 inches long, a fat fish like the jack coho this year it was crome with a golden back with spots like a jack spring but the spots were extemely large black perfect circles all along the back not to far down the sides I didnt get a chance to take notice if it was hatchery because I was to amazed by the spots and it slipped out of my hand as I held it in the water guite quickly.Could it be a type of trout I heard there are brook trout that look like this in foley.

It might have been a dolly varden, but they have pink spots.

No brook trout in Foley that I know of.
People commonly mistake them for dollies though, may have been a dolly or bull trout.
Dollies mostly have yellow and pink spots though. Did you by chance see a red slash under the jaw? Could have very well of been a cutty :

must have been a cutty it looked alot like the one in the picture just half as many spots and each one was perfectly round.

Thats an Island Cutty.
I have found the ones on the Island are ALOT different looking that Lower Mainland ones.
Older and larger cutties tend to take on the bronzish tone, which is why I posted that pic because I was trying to match the colour you saw.
They can be totally covered in spots (typical cutty) or be more like a cutt-bow and have spots only on thier backs.

I think this fish might match up what you were describing. this is my biggest cutty to date and closely resembles what you described.

does this match closer to what you caught ??



I have never caught a cutty in the Vedder so its cool to know they are in there from time to time  ;D

or perhaps this cutty matches better  ;D this one is the same size as the one you caught. the other i posted was about 22/23 inches  ;D ;D

I'm going to go with jack coho. Sounds like one by the description. Plus there are very very few cutthroat in the Vedder.

Here's a picture of a jack coho. Obviously as they get closer to spawning they will color more.

Im pretty sure it was a cutty after seeing those pics those are some sweet cutyy pics guys wish I had my camera that day.

Neither of those rivers... and I hope he doesn't say it on the forum.
That place was packed ast spring when it normally didn't have many people.
Hook was that caught right where it dumps in? I had a savage hit there and had a fish snap me off after about 3 seconds on an Olive Woolly Bugger.
