Crabbing with Rod
« on: April 12, 2012, 09:28:12 PM »

Hey everyone,

I've never crabbed before, but have been itching to try it! I was wondering if crabbing is possible off the #1 road pier in steveston? Or any other general advice about crabbing in the lower mainland you might have. In addition, I've fished for herring off the 1 road pier and have noticed that about 90% of the fishing traffic sets up on the west side of the pier.... does anyone know if there is a reason for this??

Any advice is much appreciated!

Some other places you can try is Ambleside Pier, Jericho Pier, Barnet Marine Park in Burnaby, Belcara.  Unfortunately crabbing from a dock can get a bit crowded with up to 20+ others setting out their 2 traps, and all gunning for those crabs that are within the legal size.  You are pretty much guaranteed to catch something, but it's a little bit hard to get a legal sized male crab when there are tons of other traps out there, all targetting them.
