So I went out with my brother-in-law to an undisclosed location on the Fraser to do some BB'ing for sockeye. Last year in this spot he caught his limit everyday for 2 weeks and his kids and wife were catching fish too. He promised I would catch fish too. I knew I would not. His third cast in he hits a snag. I am watching him try to pull out this snag, but he isn't doing it the way I was taught. I was taught to back straight out of it, I look over at him and he has the rod bent so bad the tip is touching the reel. Just as i'm about to say, "I wouldn't bend it like that, it'll break." I hear, "PAAACHING!!" It sounded like a sheet of glass breaking. The upper part of the rod broke in half and the top guide snapped off. I cringed. A few more casts from me and I want to leave cause I don't want to fish alone and I feel terrible that his rod snapped.
So a couple days later his wife goes to the shop where he bought it a couple of years ago, pays 12 bucks and walks out with a brand new rod, no questions asked. I couldn't believe that, I knew it was a lifetime warranty, but I thought they would ask some things, fight it a bit... nothing. That's a beautiful thing.
