Should we go on carp killing spree? If there not native to bc why don't they recommend we kill every one we catch.

Carp are slightly beneficial. They take care of the algae blooms by literally eating them all. If all the carp are gone, the algae blooms will be hard to take care of. They are the weed control in the water.

Algae blooms although a pain in the a** to us anglers, are an important part of the "turnover" cycle for lakes that freeze up in the winter. The warm water with all the decomposed plant material at the bottom blends with the clean oxygenated water on top, setting the lake up for the bug life for the following season. So don't hate on the weeds it's feeding your quarry.

We have lakes here that still get bad algae even though there are good carp populations, and even though carp and gobies eat zebra mussels there are still zebra mussels in the Great Lakes.  The ecology of the lakes and rivers is complex, and man-made structures play a part as well.  We're seeing a new demographic in immigrants who target carp (though some of the Slavs in Sask have been coming here for 15 years), and some of them are hauling away some huge fish.  Most of the recipes I've seen are for 4 - 6 lb'rs but they obviously know what to do with a 20.  The way I look at it, the carp are here to stay, and those guys are here to stay too.  But bowhunters, don't even kid yourselves, you are not making an appreciable difference in the population.  If you have to go out and kill something just because... make sure you have someone lined up who'll cook and eat it.  I read food's going to go up....
