Those are broodstocks. Catchable rainbow trout stockings have not begun. Thanks for the info rodney
Anyone know why Fawn Lake in Alice Lake Park is not being stocked?Because the over crowded urban meat fishery get's all the allocation, and I agree with you Fawn lake is a beautiful place to spend the day fly-fishing.
It is smaller but a very pretty little lake (pond) and used to have some great days there with poppers. The little fish use to hammer them.
what about Deer Lake in Burnaby
why it is not getting the attention it deserves and needs??
I'll ask about Fawn Lake.
Deer Lake is stocked a couple of times per year. It receives less fish than other lakes because the water quality simply isn't ideal. That being said, there are potentials and FFSBC has designated it as one of the "Fishing in the City" lakes this year. Look for future projects to make this a better urban fishery. That's great news Rod, and I know you provided the impetus to get that going(Deer Lake). I have had great day's on both those lakes, and I see Deer lake as a huge urban fishery asset for reasons I have previously laid out. My guess as to Fawn Lakes situation is that they feel by stocking the other three bigger lakes in that park, with easier access, that should suffice. How much more is it going to tax the system to stock a few more in fawn lake, especially when/while they are up at Edith anyway?

I called the hatchery this morning and they said the urban lakes wont be done until the end of next week or even the following week still :o She said they are short staffed, i am thinking they must have only 1 person besides the secretary to be a full month behind almostwho do you talk to at 12:32:40 am?
Here is the tentative stocking plan for this week.
Tuesday - Como and Lafarge Lake (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/lafarge_lake.html).
Wednesday - Green Timbers (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/rice_lake.html), Rice (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/rice_lake.html) and Sasamat Lake (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/sasamat_lake.html).
Average size of these fish will be 300g.
Confirmation of these stockings will be available here and at http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fishing_report/stocking_2.html once complete.
Here is the tentative stocking plan for this week.
Como lake stocked today ~ 1000 fish.
They weren't on the bite, as is the case usually for freshly stocked fish.
I got one on a 1/8 croc spoon from the dock.
I went to Como lake today, around 7:30PM and didn't see any people fishing there.
Usually this means no fish in the lake

Smaller than what I catch, bigger than what you catch. ;D
300g is around 14 to 16 inches.
How long does the fish frenzy last after a lake has been stocked.it depends on the lake...but honestly as soon as the lakes are being stocked there will always be people out there. less on weekdays and bad weather days.

Why stock it at all then?
Is it sort of an "Eat at your own risk" arrangement for the few fisherman who do?
That's correct. Deer Lake in Harrison does not receive catchable rainbow trout stockings, only yearlings.
what is the difference ? what is a yearling ? :-[

Does midday trout fishing suck in all the lakes now?
It was fantastic about a month ago. You could pound them in all day.
Nowadays, it seems your only hope is early in the morning and late in the evening.
Como, Edith, Lost and Browning Lakes are to be stocked today. Thanks for the heads up Rodney

Noticed that too. must be just the time of year?
Either:
A) wait for the temperature/weather to stabilize.
or
B) change your tactics
P.S. Thanks Rodney for the updates;
My kids appreciate it.

Rice has a nice setting IN THEORY. last four times I have been there it would of been quieter fishing on the vedder under the highway 1 bridge! Yesterday there was a school party came past and stopped on the dock for an hour. I felt nearly as sorry for the teacher trying to control them as I did for myself and the nice ladies who were trying to fly fish!
My wife and I were there Saturday as well ... when we left we saw the school group coming in. Were you the guy fly fishing next to those two nice ladies on the pier? We didn't catch any trout that morning, still had a good time trying though.
The tentative stocking plan for this week is Mike, Rolley and Buntzen Lake on October 6th. Updates will be available on Friday. Thanks once again for the heads up Rodney, how is launching at Buntzen?
