WOW, thats some BIG fish! to bad they didnt let them go and reproduce :'(
DaN
-
We could only dream of catching one that big
-
Ionno about you guys but i wouldent really want all the vedder springs to be that big. I would spent after one or two fish.
-
i dunno about 12 lb test..
-
Come on... 12lb? How sporting is that? It can easily be done with 6... ;)
-
maybe a rope at the leat ;D
-
Did someone mention line rating?
-
;D I think the 12 pound test would snap like a hair if that monster shaked its head.
-
Too bad the Columbia was damed in the mid 50's and the majority of that salmon run was forever destroyed (used to be the biggest on the planet) but hey at least the Columbia doesn't flood as much and everyones got hydro power. :-X :-\ Hey but I read of a 95lbser caught and released in the Skeena a few years ago.
-
12 lb test would snap like dental floss on a fish like that. In fact, pretty much any rod anyone uses to drift fish in the LM would explode at the hook set.....
-
Did someone say floss? :o :-X ;)
-
I believe that there was a world record set on the Skeena a few years back for biggest chinook ever caught on a rod and reel. Was somewhere around 97 lbs!!!! I wish I could find a picture if it. The only one I could find was in a magazine, and it was a replica of what the fish would have looked like!!! ;D ;D

Nice!!! :) :) :o But that wasn't the one that I was stalking about!!! The one I mentioned was in Sportfishing BC Magazine. It was caught by a GIRL!!!!! :o :o
-
You seen the fish on the back of a Gibbs spoon package?
But they only live like eight years, there is no reason why there aren't monsters like that still lurking. They would just be farther and fewer between, just like salmon of all sizes.
-
I found that article about the Massive Chinook!! It was caught by a German tourist by the name of Ingrid Oeder. The Chinook weight in at 99.25lbs. It was caught and released on the Skeena River in 2001. Before they let the mighty King slide back into the river, they took it's measurements. Here they are!!! 53.5 inches long, and 38.5 inches around!! :o :o
The salmon's size was then phoned into Gander and Son's, and they got to work creating a life sized mold. Then, it was ready 2 years later, and after 12,500 scales were hand carved. To offset some of the cost to Oeder, as this was the most expensive fish ever created at Gander and Son's, several salmon are being created from the one mold. The city of terrace has ordered one, in order to permanently display the 100 pound pride of the Skeena!!!

you got meat for a life time outa those fish ;D
-
I think that i could take one of those bad boys on my trout gear set up
-
steel i have that magazine with the chick on the cover with that spring its Friggen huge
That picture never made the cover. Actually the picture in BCO is in black and white and is pretty crappy.
-
Using a C&R formula on a fish that big......gimme a break!!!!! ::) I've seen the pic of it laying on its side in the water, it's a huge spring, but to say to the quarter of the pound how much it weighs, c'mon! If they thought it was a record and wanted the recognition, they should have whacked it!
-
Well I guess that I'm the only one in here that hasn't seen an actual picture!! ::) If anyone could find that pic, of the 99.25 lb fish, could you plz post it!!! I would like to see the fish rather than the replica!!!
-
The record spring was 126 lb and was caught in a commerical net. What a waste! Was there ever a picture or article written about that fish?
-
Hmm wonder if my 8wt could handle that? ??? ;D
-
To catch a chinook salmon over a 100 lbs would be very rare today due to over fishing and pollution. Also residential areas are hurting our water systems as they build to close to riparian zones close to the water.
-
I suspect it was caught bottom bouncing ::)
Hmm wonder if my 8wt could handle that? ??? ;D

WOW
