Yeah, same situation at the Chehalis hatchery.  They ask you not to cross the picket line there too.

I'm beginning to wonder if the fish are just so spooked with the heavy equipment working in the lower canal they are mostly not biting.I have not had a worse coho season since I started fishing.

Brutal for me as well.  Put in a morning with not even a bite.  Buddy lost one but that was it.

This has easily been the worst coho season Ive experienced.  Seems to be following  trend though...I look back at records 5-6 years ago and Ive had lots by now.  ??? ??? ???

Each year either it gets worse or my fishing ability gets worse.  :'(

So the service dept. is on strike, poor smolts, how are they going to get their 3 course meals? :-\
Hopefully feedings is automated, if not there will not be any hatchery Cohoes in 4 years for us to harvest.  Wonder if the holding channels are overstuffed with returning Cohoes? :o
If this keeps up the fishers will have to cross the picket lines to save our resources ::)

In all probability some of the employees will be "designated" which means they will be required to report to work.

Each hatchery has "designate employees" who are required by law to work in the event of labour disruptions. Not to worry, the fish will get fed and the site integrety will be looked after ie; pumps and wells. I'm sure the collection facilities will also be closed  as the few staff around will not have the time or desire to handle adults. Also coho are 3 year old fish, not 4 year olds, at least not the majority of them.
No offence, but the average angler would'nt know where to start in how to run a hatchery.

I talked to someone , on the river who apparently knows whats going in the hatchery and told me that they already had 10,000 coho return. That was on last Thursday.  Go figure.

Thanks for the update, that leaves us with 20,000 to find in the system.  Happy hunting ;)

Biffchan, based on these numbers for the last 5 years, it's a conservative guess of 30,000 Cohoes expected to return this year.  Some runs currently hold large numbers of Coho.  BP posted a great report.. :D  I'm still hooking into chrome fish which indicates late arrivals.  It's wonderfull to know that these fish are still in the system.   ;)
