Hi

The area around my bathtub seems to be leaking water along the edges when taking a shower.

Anyone know someone in Maple Ridge that is reasonable?

Thanks in advance.

Is it where the shower doors meet the tub?
Sounds like you need to re silicone it.

Not difficult but very tedious.
You need to remove all silicone and then make sure it is dry as water will sit under the track.
Once dry, apply a new beed of silicone.

Well if where you circled you have water coming from it when the shower is going then I think you have a bit of a problem. You will most likly have to take the wall apart to fix a leak comine from behind the wall.

Ya if water is coming out of that area that is a little more than silicone. I would get it checked asap. Have you checked below for water damage?

I did and nothing down below. I was hoping someone from this forum would know someone trustworthy.

I hate to get someone off the street without a reference.

We had the same thing happening in our shower stall.  Our problem seemed to be cracks in the grout where the tiles are.  The water went into the cracks and ran along the wall untill it hit the edge of the stall after which it ran down beneath the silicone.  We got the entire stall regrouted for a couple hundred bucks.  No problems since.

Was the grout condition obvious to you before you regrouted?

I look at the current grout and I do not see any breaks or holes on them.

From what I see I would take a close look at where the tile sits on the tub. The water mark seems to start roughly at tub level. if there is silicon along the tub meets tile area remove it and check out behind there. Then get a small tube of tub silicon and redo after cleaning the area well. Also get one of those tub splash gaurds for that area.

If you redo the silicone make sure you use masking tape.

I could see cracks in the grout.  I wasn't sure if they were deep enough though.  The fact that there is no water damage down below is a good sign I guess.

I'm a certified carpenter, and I am a foreman for a custom home company. I've seen and dealt with this kind of issue many times. My first advice would be to cut a hole on the opposite side of the wall and have a look inside to see if there is any rot. IF there is, then unfortunately we have to pull the walls down and chase the rot and replace everything which is always your best (and most expensive bet). However, there may not be any rot, and the cheapest option would be to re grout and re seal everything.

I live in Maple Ridge aswell.

I forgot to mention that the same thing happened in the townhouse that we lived in 10 years ago.  That time rather than re-grouting, we put on Barker board which is basically large panels that look like tile but of course has no grout.  Basically each of the panels can be glued on to the existing tile and silicone applied to the edges and seams.  It was quick to apply and virtually leakproof since it will not crack like tile.  If you don't mind the look of the barker board, that might be a way to go.
