Chinook on the Thompson
« on: July 14, 2011, 10:07:38 PM »

Notice the T opens June 16 for springs. I just got back from a trip up north with good success and now want to hit the T for springs.

Any tips?

Thanks

I think it's for the jack chinook fishery until the 18th of September (nothing over 50cm's). The September fishery for the big boys is fun above Kamloops lake on the south T. Anchors out with huge spoons behind the boat gave us most of our success last year. Chris has a vid on this site somewhere targeting the jacks, I think he's using roe.

Yes it's open for jacks tomorrow (under 50 cm) nothing under 30 cm's. Must be quite a few around I hooked and landed a 15 lb spring the other day at the confluence of the Bonaparte River while chucking a spoon for bows.

Good Luck to all

No problem bud. Let me know how you do, float some roe at the Nicola mouth would be my first choice..

We did not get any or see any roll. Will go again once the water drops a bit more.

Yeah, I saw a few trout rising at every spot I went to on the Thompson. Juniper Beach had the most frequent risers. Also fish slashing at fry at Steelhead waaaaay out in the inaccessible middle.

I'll see you out there! Look for a maroon thunder jet anchored up in various spots above Pritchard! Say hi if you see us. August 16th she opens....

Cheers

Sounds good.

I've always done well with a big black stonefly nymph or brown wooly buggers for Thompson trout.
