wholesale sports is opening soon here in langley... just what i need another place to spend the pay check... i can hear the girlfriend complaining already...
-
too bad it isn't sooner. lol
-
Pretty awsome ;D
-
The new manager is one this forum, but i dont think he wants me to tell everyone :P ;D
-
As much fun as there will be walking around in that store, my first choice will always be the local tackle shop (The guy involved in the community, the guy who starts fishing clubs in schools, the guy that knows me by name................etc). I am not at all apposed to Wholesale sports coming to langley but would hate to see the little guy get put out of business. I myself will only make purchases at the big box store if I can't get it from the local guy.
Just my opinion

From what I hear the prices at Wholesale Sports in Canada are pretty comparible to other tackle stores, the only advantage they may have is selection. As long as the local tackle stores provide the great service and advise I don't think they have too much to worry about. I always support Sea-Run as they do the little extras and provide great service even though Walmart is less than 5 min away and a little cheaper. Just my 2 bits

If the manager can email me at info@fishingwithrod.com that would be great, so we can discuss what he needs to do to get the store up on the website.

correction, Manager of the fishing department :-\

Well for any store owner in the fishing tackle business, it never seems to stop. Survived one of the worst recessions, and knowing this summer that the HST will make things even tougher to make a living and now this. Wholesale Sports has done their homework, and realize that there is an opening in the lower mainland for a store such as theirs. Couple that with the larger buying power the big box stores have, and it gets that much harder to make a living as an outdoor sports store. One positive for consumers is that you should see much improved customer service at all other existing stores, and very competitive pricing.
-
im have a bad feeling that we may see Galilee Fly & Tackle go under. I think they have been doing alright competing with A&N but to compete with 2 big stores within minutes of them !!

--in kamloops after initial run to wholesale sports the local shops that were good before wholesale sports are still around and doing well.
--In fact some extra busness as people from out of town stop in to or from their wholesale sports shoping.
--I havent' been in Galilee but if they have what their current customers want and work hard to bring quality products and services they could benefit from the extra traffic.
--I always support my local shop so just remember guys is it worth saving a few pennies on some common items if it means your local shop goes under.
-
Girlfriends have no right to complain about your fishing expenditures. Now the wife, thats another story. :-[
-
........ and knowing this summer that the HST will make things even tougher to make a living ............
;D ;D ;D
-
i like to shop at stores were the staff hangs out, coffee in hand, and talk fishing. this type of behaviour is discouraged at wholesale sports. not my kind of store.
-
as far as fishing goes, army and navy has a really good selection. they may not have the higher end stuff that specialized fishing shops have but they are one of the best places to shop because of the good prices and selection...though most staff dont seem to be too knowledgable as compared to an actual fishing shop....
-
I like to give the smaller store the business as long as they are competitive. I believe this new store will promote a competitive environment and the little store with the personal touch and superior knowledge about a product will continue to succeed. However if , as in the case of Wal-Mart and some local stores, the price difference is too great then I'll shop at Wal-Mart.

--for some products the local store will get a good enough wholesale price to compete however larger stores often get much bigger discount thus make more money than the local non chain store. I used to be a partner in a retail store and in some cases the retail price at canadian tire was cheaper than our wholesale costs. Not an excuse the local store has to be aware of these differences and adjust. We would try to compensate by not charging for spooling reels etc.
-
does anyone know when it is set to open?
-
The guys at my "home store" are smart enough to realize that I could shop elsewhere for better prices and they definately make up for it. When they can give me a deal, they do. I've been given $50 off of $200 wading boots before. Also, I can honestly say I've never paid for line being put on a reel or a leader and tippet on any lines i've bought.
Combine that with info that these guys impart, I'd say it's the big stores that cant compete.
-
I was talking with a local fishing store owner and he is already cutting down his inventory in anticipation of the new competition from Wholesale.
Good or bad it will effect the little guys!
-
I would support the local guy too but the only place in Surrey/Langley is Steveston Marine and they are horrible for selection, service and price $12 bucks for a flat of anchovies when its less than $8 at Berry's
Bring it on Wholesale Sports!
The guy about the .22 ammo. Unfortunately ammunition and all it's components (i.e. bullets, powder etc) are impossible to get in North America right now. Some of the local gunshops are in the same bind of not having any and not knowing when and what is coming.
Has anyone heard the rumour of Cabelas coming?
-
Well here is my 2 cents and I maybe totally wrong on this. There’s a new Wal-Mart being open in Chilliwack in sometime, that leaves the former spot open, it’s about the right size and the right type of property army and navy looks for in new stores. It would only make sense to have an army and navy in Chilliwack thus local shops (Freds, dart and tackle, reaction) are going to have some major competition if they do come in. Army and Navy may not have the lowest price on fishing equipment but because they are a larger retail outlet they can be competitive through loss leaders and various marketing campaigns someone like Freds can’t afford. If I owned in shop in Chilliwack I would be very scared right now because that is the ideal place for an army and navy.
-
So here is my 2 cents for what it is worth. I have always shopped at my local tackle shop and always will no matter what. The main reason is the atmosphere in the shop and the relationships that are built between staff and customers that you just can not find anywhere else. The big box stores are just about meeting numbers where as the local shop is all about customer service and yes this means putting the customer first. The big problem I have with a store like Whole sale sports is the fact that it put the small shop at a disadvantage when it comes to priceing. By this I mean Whole sale sports are their own whole saler so their mark up on a product means pure profit where your local shop their pricing is set by the manufactures suggested price that is set by the whole saler they buy their product from. So unless the local shop's whole saler brings the price down the local shop just can not compete price wise. One other thing to think about is the fact the almost everyone of your local shops is owned by a member of your community that is trying to make an honest living by bring you the best service, product and info about what is working and where. This shop owner keeps their money local which in turn keeps OUR economy growing. I for one will continue to keep my business with the local shop no matter what even if it means spending a little more as anyone knows that has spent anytime in a local shop they deserve our business and not the big box stores of america.
-
I think that the area that the small businesses will be hurt is on the larger ticket items. If I plan on buying a gun or a fishing reel I want the most for the least money so I will shop around just like I shop around when buying a vehicle, furniture or building materials. I won't buy groceries at the local convenience store because I know the big box stores have better prices. On the other hand I'm not going to spend $25 bucks on gas to drive to Langley for a package of fishing hooks.
I feel bad for the local tackle shop however I am not responsible for the survival of any local business. On the other hand keeping my money in my bank account is my responsibility. :D
-
. I for one will continue to keep my business with the local shop no matter what even if it means spending a little more as anyone knows that has spent anytime in a local shop they deserve our business and not the big box stores of america.
I just love people like this lol they dont get the big picture, who is the number employer in Canada welll lets just say its the the big bad box store of america lol, Its kind of funny. Im not against local shops by any means they have always been good to me but you have to understand over time big box stores are going to start to adapt to local markets (already happening across america), example look at bass pro shop there fishing sections even in las vegas would rival freds for salmon and steelhead gear but still focus on the local fisheries. Personally I'm a business person if local shop cant get there **** together they should be out of business but so far no big box has taken a run at them ex for Army and Navy. Like i said early wholesale sports is small peanuts really, i would be afraid for a bass pro shop (already in calgary) and there goal is expansion into canada( as they have already bought a wholesale company). So support or local shops for now cause its going to change over time. edit- sorry cableas but the wholesale and bass pro shop.com does ship to canada.
-
Has anyone heard the rumour of Cabelas coming?
They bought out S.I.R. mail order and Warehouse Sports Store in Winnipeg not too long ago. They even have a Canadian website now but the selection is not as great.
http://www.cabelas.ca/about_us/our_story_/
-
I don't mind the store. It caters to a different market plus it gives more options.
-
Hey everyone;
Some of you know this already, but for those that don't, I am the new Head of the fishing department of Wholesale Sports in Langley.
The store is looking good, we are in the middle of stocking the shelves and are shooting for a May 16th opening, but if things keep going the way they are, we may be open as soon as May 10th.
The store is looking GREAT, we have a HUGE fishing department as well as a HUGE Hunting depatrtment. I have spent the past 2 days just putting Rods out on the floor, and looks like it may take a few more. We will have 1500 fishing rods on the floor, from $20 spinning rods, all the way up to $900 fly rods. The store is a total of 35,000sqft and has a HUGE selection.
As for those of you worried about the small shops like Galilee, I think that a place like Army and Navy has more to lose than the small shops. The small shops are specialized, Army and Navy is direct compitition to Wholesale Sports, With Camping, Hiking, Hunting, Fishing, etc....
I am VERY excited to be the Head of the Fishing department, It is going to be a GREAT store, and the customer service will be AWSOME as we have hired a GREAT group of people.
I will keep you all informed of actual opening date.
One last thing,
Wholesale Sports is looking for 2 more people;
Hunting Department Head, Must be a hunter, have PAL, and have retail experience
Fishing Department (Full time) We are in need of one more full time person that knows about retail, and has fishing experience. Ocean, Fly, Gear, etc......
To apply, send your resume to wholesalesports.langley@hotmail.com, or stop by the Store Monday/Tuesday and speak to Jason (Store Manager) or Rick (Assistant Store Manager)

dont feel bad about spending money at wholesale, they are canadian i believe.
-

Yes they are, Canadian owned!!
You guys will be suprised how much stuff you can get there, Not only Fishing and hunting. There is a large Camping area, Clothing, Marine, Smokers, Freeze Dried food, Archery, wildlife art, Books, etc.......
We will be focusing on customer service, and will be trying to give the small shop feel, while giving the big store pricing.

Congrats on the job Rick. Havent heard from you in a long time. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Thanks Brian;
I have been CRAZY busy. I worked the Olympics and Paralympics, and then got this job and have been working full time with the crew at Wholesale to get the store ready for opening.
I haven't even had a chance to go fishing since befroe the Olympics, MAN AM I GOING STIRR CRAZY without any fishing!!!!
We will have to get together soon and hit the water, maybe try to get Milo and Murf to join us.

Are you planning to carry some good quality vacuum sealers. ( I don't mean Food Saver)
-
Congratulations Rick,
I'll look forward to bumping into you in the coming months.
RE: Wholesale Sports coming to town.
I for one couldn't be more pleased. It will save me the drive down to Bellingham.
At the same time, I definitely feel for the guys at Galilee & Army/Navy. Over the years both stores have been good to me and I fear that this is likely to impact their business significantly.
Truth be told however, this could hardly be considered unexpected. Fishing/Hunting/Camping gear is a commodity based business. And whenever we talk about commodity based businesses its the low cost producers that survive long term. I've thought about owning a fishing store in the past but a quick glance at the industry risks turned me off rather quickly. At least for the scale of store I would be able to consider. In business, its common to think about 5 forces that shape the competitiveness within an industry. They are; The threat of new entrants; Threat of substitute products; Bargaining Power of the Buyer; Bargaining Power of the Suppliers; Rivalry's with competitors. Anyone can walk through these points and compare a small shop like Galilee to Wholesale Sports and won't take them long to conclude who the winner will be.
I hate to say it, but I doubt that a small shop like Galilee (however much we like the people) can compete with Wholesale Sports in any of these areas. Their products will be supplied at a cheaper cost, translating to a cheaper price.
Perhaps the only potential advantage a small shop has is it's customer service. But my experience, shopping at Wholesale Sports in Bellingham has been excellent. I suspect that over time if Rick and his team concentrate their efforts on building relationships and providing excellent customer service habits the game will be over for the small fly & tackle businesses in Langley.
RIP Galilee, imo

Ill be sure to check it out for sure....now I heard last year that Bass Pro Shops had bought some land in Langley. Can anyone confirm this?
-
I think that Bass Pro Shop owns Wholesale Sports, basically sister companies or something along those lines.
this is just what i was told by several people but it could be way off as well

As far as I know, Bass Pro and Wholesale Sports are NOT related in ANY way. I check it out and if I find out anything to the oppisite, I will let youy know.
As for Bass Pro coming to Langley, I heard that a few years back, but as far as I know Bass pro are NOT coming to BC (At least for some time)
Rick
-
But, what about poor old Stevenson. Are they going to have to get off their chairs and look for work or something to do.
-
Congratulations Rick on your new appointment!
Having had a chance to take my first casting lesson from you and getting great tips from you on fly fishing and reading your posts, your clearly the perfect person for the job. All the best in your new endeavor, I'll be seeing you in your new digs real soon.

Maybe special deals or coupons for FWR members? ;D
-
wholesale sports is canadian, bass pro is american. they are 2 seperate companies.
-
From what I hear the prices at Wholesale Sports in Canada are pretty comparible to other tackle stores, the only advantage they may have is selection
That has been my experience in Nanaimo. Great selection ( but Cabelas in Lacey beats them) but too few sales reps-- but I have to admit the ones I dealt with were knowledgeable. I found that the store opening specials were dissapointing...just the same as specials from other stores in my area such as harbour Chandler, Gone Fishin and Tyee Marine.
But competion is good for the consumer.......
-
Because I live and work in Langley this can only be a good thing for me.I look forward to finding quality and price locally.
-
right on rick. nice to know they have a local guy running things opening may 16th... army and navy is having there big camping and fishing parking lot sale on the 15th...what a weekend to stock up on all the gear that will be needed through out the season... cant wait for the bass gear...
-

Thanks for the update, I'm curious to browse the new store. Is there any kind of grand opening event/sale planned for next weekend? I'm sure there will probably be a few people making there way out to langley for army & navy's annual fishing/camping parking lot sale this upcoming weekend.
-

-
cant wait.. will there be a line up?
-
First off, Yes I ment May!!!!!
There will be a GRAND OPENING, but this is not planned until Late May/Early June. This is just a soft opening as we are still waiting for some stock and still have TONS of work to do in the store, but it will be open for those who come by. We will be doing some MAJOR advertising for the GRAND opening and I will also make sure to post the dates and any other relevent info here to let you know.
Rodney, we should talk some time about advertising for Wholesale Sports as well.

I was talking with a local fishing store owner and he is already cutting down his inventory in anticipation of the new competition from Wholesale.
Good or bad it will effect the little guys!
--Cut back on inventory is worst thing to do. I agree maybe cut back on common items or manufacturers like zebco or quantum etc where price match is not possible if loyal customers owner might just have to deal with keeping small stock at a loss for convenience.
--What the store should be doing is seeking new lines... ie go to ICAST show in Vegas and get some unique products.. Also check out local and smaller suppliers that will give competitive wholesale price. Get some specialty rods and reels or custom made rod services.
--Wholesale Sports can be a plus... drawing new customers to the area who.. while they are there will check out the local shop as well.
--I don't know about the rest of you but if I was in wholesale sports and passed a small shop on the way I couldn't resist taking a look.
--I was just at the customer appreciation days in kelowna at troutwaters fly & tackle.. they had prices that rivaled or beat local Can tire plus full selection of Mobey nets and outcast boats at great prices. Can tire is only two blocks away.
-I stop and shop at Wholesale sports when I'm in kamloops but as the Kamloops fly shop is only 1/2 mile away always make sure I stop in there as well to see what they have that's new.
-
Hey Guys;
Sorry for all the confusion with opening, but it has been delayed due to unforseen circumstances.
The opening is up in the air for now, Sorry once agin for all the confusion, and sorry to those who did stop by and did not get in.
Her is what I do know for sure;
GRAND OPENING, May 28-30th
I will post details about it as soon as I get the info from the manager.
Rick
-
hey rick are you guys going to be carrying bass gear if you are or are intrested in getting some drop me an email with your email address and ill send you the links fir the companys i rep for we have some good stuff
ps i cant wait to come check out the new store
-
I don't have internet access at work so I checked early this morning before leaving home to check the opening day and time, May 10 2010 9-9. I had made arrangements to meet my son there after work today and when we show up its not open. I had a couple of problems with WS in Kamloops and thought I would give them a try again. We were both looking to buy a Remington 870 shotgun, I also was going to pick up some gun cleaning supplies, accessories and look at some new camping gear. I was probably going to drop $1500 - $2000 on purchases, I sure won't be back!!! BTW there were a couple of other PO'd potential customers I talked to in the parking lot who had read on this site about the opening today and they probably won't be back either. >:(
Once again guys, I am sorry about the store not opening today. We had planned on opening today, and even had a meeting this morning with all managment. After the meeting we were told that due to unforseen circumstances, we were not able to open.
I know that some of you did come out to the store to find it closed, thanks for stopping by and again I am VERY SORRY but it was beyond the control of ALL of us.
Hope that you give it another chance during the grand opening on May28-30th.
Rick
-
Hope that you give it another chance during the grand opening on May28-30th.
That's a confirmed opening date?
-
YES 100%!!!!!!!!!!
That is the GRAND opening date. We may do a soft opening before that, but because of the uncertainty we will NOT be advertising the soft opening if there is one!!
If you are in the area, check us out, we may be open sooner than the May 28-30th but don't make an extra trip because I can't be sure of opening before the Grand opening date of the 28th!!
Rick

Listen guys I don't know Rick at all. I don't know WS. What I do know is construction and what it takes to get a store up and running.
Big stores. As a site super it is what I do. To blame WS is not right. They are only acting on the information most likely from there GC.
Sh!!te happens and nothing is easy about getting a big store running. Their are so many backoffice systems to ready and test and test and test.
Inspections, sign offs from engineers, consultants, architects the list goes on and on.
Rick I am sure was told a date and he has to go with that. Grand Openings change as well. It's just the way it goes in Large retail.
Anyways I just wanted to get the point across that I am sure WS isn't jacking customers around. They are told a date and they have to run with it.
These dates don't always work out and to blame the customer which is WS in this case is purely wrong.

I have shopped in Whole sale sports in edmonton for yrs and have bought alot of stuff from from them.My favorite place to buy gear when i pass by on my way home to chilliwack from the tarsands.Exceptional selection, quality and prices.Glad to hear they are coming to langley.Often wondered why there was no store in the lower mainland.Sounds like now there will be! GREAT NEWS!
-
We are now OPEN!!!
We were open already yesterday (Thursday) for a few hours and all went well, so COME ON BY and see what the store is all about!!
If you want to double check before coming out, the store number is 604-530-3413
Rick
-
Whats your address there in langley? Will be home on the long weekend.Need to buy a sleeping bag for my son and a new tent.
-
pretty easy to find. take 232nd exit into langley...so when you get off the exit turn right and go over the overpass....stay on that road and eventually you will hit glover road..turn left and follow that until you hit langley bypass which will be the 2nd set of lights. turn right and follow langley bypass....its maybe a km or 2 down the road on your right...its just past the boat shop on the right you will see the sign...turn right and your there its hard to miss.
-
Well I was out Langley way on Sunday and stopopoed by the store, my wife put a leash on me before we entered and confiscated my wallet. All I can say is wow what a selection.
This store will get my buisness because of the awesome products for not only fishing but camping as well. I will still shop at my faves, but this store has definately become number one in my books.
Didnt buy anything cause momma was with me but look out bank account....lol

I think i will go check it out on friday and meet Bob Izumi. I was browsing through the big merchandise book and got to thinking about a couple things that werent in there.
Rick - are you guys carrying any fly tying materials ???
-
I was in there yesterday, tons of fly tying stuff!
-
Jesus you guys and being all over the better looking fisherwomen ::) there is way more of them out there you have no idea ;)
well i think we could start a new topic on this matter... :D
-
you start the topic and i will show you a couple of the women i fish with sometimes ;) LOL alot of the women in fishing arent showcased like Mariko Izumi or April Vokey. It sure seems like women fishers are coming out of the woodwork lately though ;D and im very glad to see that there is so many of them in this sport that most thought was male dominated.
-
Yeah Im quite surprised, I took my 25yr old daughter fishing for pinks the first time last year and since then its been "Dad we going fishing today." She loves the Ved and wants to head to try the Squamish and I have to take her to Wholesale Sports next week.... ;D
-
how many of you guys/girls will be attending the grand opening? was there today again and i could spend a good 4 hours in there looking at everything... stand up service paired up with great prices... my tackle boxes and vests will be much heavier in the future...
-
Hey DWC you need to check your email ! Sturgeon fishing could be in your future ;D
-
Hey DWC you need to check your email ! Sturgeon fishing could be in your future ;D
thanks stealth... i will never live that one down... sent a quick reply talk to you later... was nice seeing you and that sexy new boat of yours at WS...
-
Rick - are you guys carrying any fly tying materials ???
TONS of materials. 4 full Aisles of Tying supplies.
There are many things that are still coming in, we just got 4 more HUGE boxes of tying supplies in today.
Hope to see a bunch of you at the Grand Opening. If you come, make sure to introduce yourself to me, I look forward to putting faces to the names.
Rick
-
the fly tying section is rather impressive i must say. the whole store is pretty cool. Id recommend people stop in for a look.
though as impressive as it all is, i find the knowledge i get from local tackle shops outweighs the selection at WSS.
-
hey Bassonator, I could take your 25yr old daughter out fishing ;) LOL it sounds like you dont fish enough for her liking anyways and i fish all the time ;D
I will be going to check out the Grand Opening, when is the question because i dont know what shift i will be yet. I may actually be able to convince the boss to go take a look this weekend but im thinking i might get a big fat NO instead LOL
-
Trust me you dont wanna, on her first Pink outing she outfished dad 7 to 1......Im still humbled...lol
Ill be there for the opening too...The wife will tag along and she,ll prolly let me buy something thats under $10 lol....damn I hate women with wallet control...lol...looking for a new noodle rod so hopefully Ill find one.
-
mine only gets into wallet control mode when im looking to spend $100 or more ;) she almost sh** a brick when i brought home that Simms jacket from TNT :o she thought i went and bought it and she knew how much it cost !!!!
I have no problem with someone out fishing me. I have taken out many people fishing and gotten them into more fish then myself. Its all about the experience not about fish numbers ;D just this past weekend i was at a lake and doing very well, anyone that came over to ask what i was using i gladly told and even handed out several flies to those that had nothing similar, its just the way i am.

not many guys would even think of doing something like that... i like the "Its all about the experience not about fish numbers ;D " most guys i see are straight meat fisherman... see you on the flow one day hook...
-
"Its all about the experience not about fish numbers ;D"
it's quality, not quantity :P
-
trust me Tight lines. if i wanna go out there and just pound fish to the beach it can be done however i have evolved past that a long time ago and now enjoy just being out there with good friends in even better surroundings. I have a fairly wide base of fishing buddies but the group just keeps getting bigger ;D I do however have my solid regulars LOL
-
I went by the store today and as i was walking in my buddy noticed that the folks walking out had nothing in there hand. Well I got inside and found out why. No low prices. All prices are the same or more than you can find at a smaller store. The store itself is impressive as its the first around of its kind, its just i expected with our stronger dollar and their buying power better prices. When will these guys get through there head if the price is right more will sell. I just happen to have some cash in my pocket but it stayed there. I give them under 2 yrs unless something changes.
-
I agree "WHOLESALE" is kind of a decieving name, not any deals at all. I can get the same prices at my local tackle store http://www.hatchmatchr.com/ and if i am giong to cross the bridge i think i will stick with Army and Navy. Best of luck

did you guys not understand Rick when he said the prices would be "comparable" to other shops in the area ??
Do you expect them to be dumping their merchandise for alot cheaper then all the shops and put the little guy out of business ??
I myself looked through their catalogue that a guy at work had. I saw alot of good deals on stuff and alot that i could get cheaper from my local guys. This is the way it should be i think because if they under cut everyone then we would all bitch about the big box store killing off the little guy, like you all did about Army & Navy a year or two ago.
as consumers its best FOR US to have as many options open to us so we can get the best price for ourselves and like i said before, Im sure i can get alot of stuff at my local shop cheaper because of my relationship there however i may look to buy bigger purchases elsewhere :o
-
I give them under 2 yrs unless something changes. give them under 2 yrs unless something changes.
I agree :o
-
i doubt they will be hurting for business. but most of the smaller stuff was the same or sometimes more than local stores...but if you look at a lot of the bigger ticket items, you can get a better price than most stores are willing to offer
-
I will go back there again and im sure I will buy something but even the big stuff. My buddy just last month bought 2 inflatable vests , the best scotty elect downrigger and some folding table for about $300 less than they were asking. I guess if you know where the deals are. I still like the store and wish them well I was expecting them to be at least 5% under the competiton at least for now then bump up the prices. At least they should let people barter abit with them our match other stores prices. We'll see. ;D

I really hope the staff in the fishing department step up their customer service >:( My dad and step mom were in there on Saturday and all the staff in the fishing dept. just walked right by HER to help the male customers. She was looking to buy something and was waiting to ask some questions. Finally she grabbed my dad and then *poof* a guy to help showed up ::) they also had a couple other bad experiences while there which i am not going to explain but if i had been there there sure as hell would have been complaints filed >:(
I will be heading to the store this weekend (opening weekend) to take a look and see what Grand Opening deals there are. If i see any bad service i will be speaking up thats for sure, will also be having a chat with Rick about the guy they dealt with because they got his name ::)
So far im not hearing good things guys at Wholesale (tisk tisk) this had better change quickly or you will be going bye bye i think

I am so disappointed in Wholesale. Twice I have gone in a had some of he rudest customer expirence. The first time the guy wouldn't even look up a price on their computer after one of his co-workers told him how. Instead he just looked at me and gave me what he thought the price was. The second time I was unlucky enough to have the same guy tell me it was too bad for me that their stock was low and I should have come in the week before. Both times I went to army and navy in Langley after walking out of the store and was treated how a customer should be treated. In the last week i have spent close to $700 at army and navy that wholesale could have had if their employees werent so rude and seemed to care. I don't think I'll ever shop at wholesale again.

So let me get this straight, you have been in there 2 times, and were helped by the same guy both times and were dissapointed in the customer service and you blame the whole store? try going to another sales person. One bad apple doesn't mean the whole tree is rotton.
Im not trying to defend the store and maybe the whole store is bad, i don't know. But common sense dictates that you might want to try another sales person. Glad to hear you were satisfied with A&N, that langley store is a nice store.

I know what your saying, but some buddies of mine have had the similar issues as well. I have also been in more then twice, i have been in several times, the first time i was treated well by whom i believe is the department manager, but those are the two recent trips where i was looking at making major purchases. I have also worked in retail and customer service for close to 10 years, so i myself hold customer service at a high level, i will spend my money where i am treated the best, and when someone tells you to go to another store to shop or cant take the time to look up prices for customers it reflects badly on the department.
A&N have gone above and beyond when i have gone in looking for help and will have my business from now on:)

I heard thru the rumor mill after a bud of mine went to BPS in Calgary that Abby or the Ridge might get a BPS.

that would be sweet...maple ridge wouldnt be the best place for that though. abby isnt a bad bet
-
Maple Ridge wont get a Bass Pro Sop. The population is too small here and City Council does not like big box stores.
-
hey bassonator which buddy would that be lol
and bryan i did hear maple ridge or abby right from the regional managers mouth at bps i hope its in abby thou
-
Hey Nox...how goes it......Im ready for some bass on da fly...lol

I went and had a look at Wholesale sports when the wife was in chapters and there was a customer looking to buy some fly gear and the sales guy even recommended he go to Army and Navy even though they had the exact samething. I thought it was a little strange.

I think their staff is hit and miss.
I was in there looking for a rod holder for my float tube. After not finding the right one, I asked for some help. First they took me to the rod cases, then to the boat accessories, then when I pointed out the isle of rod holders they had they said if I didn't already see it they probably didn't have it.
I went home, looked it up in their online catalog, printed it out, went back in (a few days later) and they found it no problem.
I would have just bought it at army and navy but they were sold out.
-
You get what you pay for. If you want to spend an hour asking advice from a sales guy who knows what he is taking about then you should expect to pay more for it. Equally, if you have spent a lot of time researching and know exactly what you want to buy and dont need any advice then why pay more?
-
There will never be one of these stores in Maple Ridge.
Like Bobo says, our council would rather see the big stores go elsewhere.
But,if you ever need candles, sex toys or a new crack pipe,Maple Ridge is shopping heaven. ::)
-
I'll lay odds that Abby or even Pitt Meadows gets it if they were to build another. Like BB and FL stated... the council here in Maple Ridge is not big box friendly. There's no real space readily available and it would take up too much of the precious 'hay-making' farmland. Unless they wanted to build it on a mountain side - cut down all them trees - then its ok. Oh wait - thats set aside for residential.
Forgive me for ranting !
