Title: Hackle Sizing for Salmon Flies
Post by: Chehalis_Steel on November 15, 2014, 05:53:47 PM
I've been tying a few Coho flies lately, mostly the go-to California Neal or Coho Bugger. Really successful fly so far this season for cutties, chum, and coho.

Anyways, I'm curious about how much the length of the hackle I'm using matters for salmon flies like this. I know for dries you want something like 1.5X hook bend measurement but what's a good amount for salmon flies? Bigger or smaller or is it not important?

for that style of fly I prefer the hackle to be no bigger than the hook gap and preferably smaller. For more other wet flies just use the standard wet fly dimensions
