I have recently moved to Van for school and am trying to figure out where the heck one should fish with all the rivers, lakes and not to mention the ocean near by. I highly prefer fly fishing, but any time of fishing floats my boat. I ventured to the Fraser the other and tied into some pinks for the first time in my life. Exhilerating! Although the salmon fishing was great, I was wondering if there are any smaller systems around where someone could do some walking on a river fly fishing for cutts, bullies, bows or even whitefish. I am kind of intimidated by salmon fishing seeing it is new to me, and am hoping to find some smaller stream or river fishing that is more to my pace. Don't give away any secret hotspots of course, but could someone point me in the right direction.

I have some good places for bows and cutties but how far do you want to travel? If you are up for an adventure nothing beats the Skagit. Its something unlike anything else.

Thanks Eddie99, I am hoping to find places that are within a couple hours drive, but preferably closer than further. That being said, if it is a little further away, but I have a chance for some cutties in more of a remote setting, I would be willing to make the drive. Any suggestions?

The seymour is in north Van, right next to the second narrows.

The Skagit is more than worth it. If you need directions don't be afraid to ask. I use a 3wt on these beautiful specimens. Its the best in dry fly action. Just bring plenty of Deet and bear spray.

Thanks eddie99, Skagit sounds like great place, I don't need specific directions (unless you want to give some out), but could you point me in the direction. Definitely think it would be worth venturing to.

Peg Legs is always a great place to learn salmon fishing ;D Otherwise the Chedder will give you fishing for trout and salmon.

Take the #1 HWY and travel past Chilliwack. A couple exits before Hope you will see an Exit called Silver-Skagit. Take that exit and follow the river. You wont be disappointed. ;D

Rule #1. Make friends with a boat owner that fishes the fraser.. If you go as a newbie to Peg leg when there is a gong, you will give up...lol
Another thing is buy a map of the fraser, available at any tackle shop, You will learn where all the hot spots are when you see the discussions.

Oh remember though Skagit River no fishing from Nov 1 to June 30.
