Much talk about these particular floats. What sizes would be recommended for rivers like the Chwk/Ved, Chehalis etc. Also, are they available in the USA??

You can get them at an online US tackle shop here:

http://www.fishusa.com/tackleshop/catalog_category.asp?CategoryID=%7BAFB7BCA3%2DEDCE%2D48CB%2DAE77%2DAFA65060FD5E%7D&i=FF389BF1631A453EADBDDBAFEA6A927D&fx=1

I can check at some of the local tackle stores next time I go, though float fishing isn't as big here as in Canada.

#3 is my favourite, #4 if you have a lot of lead on. Once you're at the river get them at Freds.  Once you use these there's no going back.  BP

I only use a Drennan when the water is gin clear and SUPER low.   I use the 5/8" thru foam floats and they are just fine. My fishing partners use the foam, too, and I don't know anyone else on the river who would outfish them. Don't waste $6. Just pick them up as they come floating down.

I have seen pods of fish split in 2 when a foam float goes thru the pack.  that same pack was not disturbed by my drennan...they are pricy but certain scenarios make it justifiable.

I'd have to agree with Gooey, the Drennen is just another advantage that helps you get a fish when others can't in clear conditions.  If you haven't noticed that a drennen equiped guy will catch a fish in the same spot as other fishers who have'nt had any luck then I'm sure you will one day. It's the same advantage you'll have useing light leader or even flourocarbon.
