Why buy roe?
Blades and wool catch coho just as well.

I love wool. It gives me so many colour combinations to play with.
If roe is bad, you are not going to catch a darn thing and keep wondering why you are not catching anything.

I have so much roe that some of it is 2 years old and I concluded that this is not a good thing.
I did catch some fish on that roe, but many more on wool and blades.
Plus the borax, man it's a pain.

one does have to keep in mind that the roe from bruces market does come from a comercial source
the roe is a second source of income

they smoke up really nice no waste :o

coho love those big eggs

I like the fact the fish isn't being wasted just for the roe, I've bonked 2 chum this year just for eggs.
Maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow as I understand there is a list. Thanks to all who replied

Hey canoe man I've heard that chum roe makes good caviar for those who are into that kind of stuff.
Could be why the price is so high, though I'm not sure if it's any good if the fish was never bled.

chum roe is the prefered salmon roe for the japanese sushi market, salt cured eggs "ikura".
That is where its value comes from and then bait I suppose

Nothing wrong with admitting that. Just means he killed the fish rather than releasing them as he needed eggs for bait. Males will have better meat quality as they don't lose nutrients to eggs like the females do. If I catch a female and legally I'm allowed to kill it, it's good as dead as I like having a supply of roe in the freezer.
