« on: November 02, 2012, 12:52:47 PM »

Hey guys was thinking of putting my name on the list for some chum roe from Bruces market,
Can anyone comment on the quality of the roe?
Not really interested in clubin a chum just for the roe.
Thanks in advance

It was okay I guess paid $10 a # stuff was bloody had to clean it up a bit. I only bought it cause I en out and didn't want that crappy cured stuff they have at the tackle shops plus wanted to cure my own, give it a try if your not willing to bonk a dog might be worth the trouble I personally would just bonk a fish good luck hope it helps

Used to buy from Bruce's but you cannot pick through the skeins so you sometimes get crap but sure beats store bought curing your own.  The fish don't seem to be bleed out before eggs were taken so you have to somehow extract the blood out before curing.  Good Luck....I believe it's something like $10/LBS(Chum skein = 1.2LBS - 1.7LBS), like 2 skeins for $20. Ouch..too rich for my blood!!

I bought a pound in september, the quality of the roe wasn't the greatest but it did the job and from starting off with that 1 pound of roe I now have 20 pounds of roe. Its good to buy if you have no roe to get you started then you can catch your does and bag your own roe.

Bought some a few weeks ago, was excellent quality.  But i paid 20$ for two decent sized skeins, so one doe is 20$ worth of roe.  Way too expensive for me.

I Bought 10 lbs on October 1 2012. These were the first batch that went on sale. The quality was great and I had them cured and caught many cohos with them.$10.00 a lb.

yes they have roe, but it's not always chum....sometimes they have frozen sockeye that they thaw out.  $9.50-12/lb depending on the boat.

It's ok.got mine(4 lb) late Sept/early Oct.As mentioned a bit bloody. Also the membranes had some cuts/rips.Lots of singles falling off so I made a bunh of roe bags......Still made better bait than Berry's freezer burnt crap .....The spring roe at the end of Aug was a better deal at $5 a lb...should  of bought more than the 4 lbs I got of that...

The roe I got was fresh indeed, but it just looked like it wasn't well taken care of. I don't think they bleed the fish at all.

Why buy roe?
Blades and wool catch coho just as well.

I love wool. It gives me so many colour combinations to play with.
If roe is bad, you are not going to catch a darn thing and keep wondering why you are not catching anything.

I have so much roe that some of it is 2 years old and I concluded that this is not a good thing.
I did catch some fish on that roe, but many more on wool and blades.
Plus the borax, man it's a pain.
