Bait Loop Knot
« on: October 09, 2019, 03:18:58 PM »

Just curious if anyone has a solution to get the Loop started on the knot.  On the rare occasion when all my roe is taken getting that loop started again is a pain especially with my poor eyesight and ham fingers.

Try a tiny tuff of wool, some friends just add a tiny piece for color variation and to help after fighting a fish that has taken the roe and all that is left is a tiny piece of skein. Ussully I just keep picking at the left over skein until the loop opens up since I like to use small hooks like size 4 Owner no escapes for pretty much every species right now.

Maybe I am reading wrong and mis-understanding.
I do not use my fingers to pull open the loop.
I grab a hold of the hook with my left hand.
With my right hand, I hold the leader and push it back towards the hook and push the leader line backwards through the eye of the hook.
This then opens up the loop in the bait loop, and there is no need to pull or fidget with the assistance of good eyesight.

This is how I tie mine so the loop is easier to get out.

I like using this knot, the loop can be a bigger spread with the amount of wraps on the first section
The larger the loop can hold a gob of roe if need be
This knot I also use to make tandem rigs for saltwater applications

That T-shirt can be bought directly from Islander's website:

https://www.islander.com/product-category/apparel/t-shirts/

They have fantastic T-shirts... I actually prefer the Mountain Legacy Tee, better than this green one I have.
