Title: Sockeye & springs sighted in Seattle
Post by: norm_2 on August 04, 2004, 04:37:06 PM
Was in Seattle on the long weekend and checked out the canal and lock system which links the ocean with Lake Washington.  In the canal, in a 50' by 50' section where there was no glare, I could see 20 to 30 sockeye and a few springs swimming around.  There were lots in the canal.  The sockeye were close to 10 lbs and the springs were huge probably 3 times bigger than the sockeye.  It was quite a sight.  They have a fish ladder with windows and I could see mostly sockeye.

The fish spawn in the rivers and creeks flowing into Lake Washington.  Good to see they spawn so close to the city.

There you go, even on vacation, you can see fish.
