I was crossing some side channels up by the hatchery on one of the first nice days of July, must had been 25+ degrees that day. It was just numbing cold, didnt take long to loose feeling in the legs, I couldnt see how anyone could just stand knee deep in it for some time. Maybe I am a wimp...

id rather wear waders but if it is hot enough i wouldnt mind wearing just some shorts and some surf shoes or something...maybe even just some sandals...

I go shorts and sandals and Bigfisher you get used to it. If im standing in the water for a long time then yes my ankles and/or knees get pretty cold but never numb  :-\ I do find the ankles get uncomfortable when they are thawing out though LOL

perhaps the water has warmed up some since then. why dont you give it another shot and see if there's a difference?

standing in cold water for long periods of time be it durable or not is not good for the joints. something to consider. :)

I swam across the river last October.....decided it was better to go for a swim than to waste 2 hours hiking.

On a Vedder related note....where abouts on the river are the slower waters/pools? I was there today but most of the "pools" (i.e. Tamahi etc.) are still pretty fast moving water. Is there an area where you can get some deep slow pools, or does that just naturally happen once the water level drops more?

Went out scouting and there are tons of mosquitos out. must have got bit around 10  in 10 minutes. bring sun block and bug spray.

Water was cold too.
