So I have only been out fishing once in the last 3 weeks or so... I live 5 mins from the river. Well twice if you count the hr after work one day. I was gonna go yesterday morning, but went outside and said F that.. don't feel like freezing my hands this morning... then this morning I told the wife I was going to go out for a couple hrs and proceeded to come downstairs and play with the dogs for an hr... and now I am writing this post...lol Not sure why I can't get motivated to go out.... Maybe I need more gear? Springs coming and I have stuff I want to do to the car? Yet I don't seem to be doing that either.... Maybe I have been soured a bit by being intentionally low holed the last 2 times out by the same 2 cranky old bastards that scowl and give me dirty looks... making me want to throw them in the river....lol I don't know... anyhow... I am sitting here typing this instead of fishing.... :-\

you need fishing companion.
-
You've caught too many in a short time! Time to stay home for the rest of the season to get over the steelhead overdose! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Just look at the weather forecast for the next week...looks like this morning is your window of opportunity.
-
I don't know why you stopped durring the prime time of the season but heres a little something.. 8)
I've seen alot of pics from you my friend. yet we're still awaiting the 20lb+ pics.. ::)
can't get a 20 lb fish sitting at your computer
hope you get out soon. too many friendly guys are getting pushed out by crankey fellas. just hook one and make em even more green in the face!
good luck

I'm sure we all go through that stage. Nothing to worry about
-
after getting a fresh fish you will be up all night again
unlike me, 100km away the river....i have a hard time visit that river a lot
:'(
-
Thanks guys... I'm not on the catching pace I was earlier this year... but I'm still catching some. Got one and rolled one last time out. It's weird... I'm actually at home hanging pictures and doing things I have been putting off for a long time..lol Making the wife happy... Not sure about me. Hmmm..... :D

It's called the law of diminishing marginal utility. Each fish you catch will have less and less value to you. What has happened to you is that you've reached the point where catching another fish is less valuable to you than playing with the dogs or staying warm inside.
When I get like this I look to change things up or to give myself other goal/objective/challenges.
This can take on many forms such as, spending the entire day fishing a new technique (fly fishing, swinging spoons), fishing entirely new water that you've never been to before or never had success on, capturing fish for the brood stock program, fishing only big fish water in an attempt to find a derby winner, taking someone new out fishing and gettting them into their first ever fish (with the way you've been posting I'm sure you wouldn't have a hard time finding people wanting to take you up on that one).
-
Enjoy your time away from the river and getting caught up on other stuff. When it feels like you have to force yourself to do something, a break usually helps. I've gone through phases of disinterest lasting months but the fishing bug always eventually returns.

I was supposed to go fishing today, instead I'm getting an appendectomy. Go fish!!!!

I hope so :) I've been steelhead fishing a total of 4 times this entire season; I live 10 minutes away and walk my dog daily along the Vedder but I guess after over 50 years of fishing it, maybe that's enough? Hope to get my mojo back soon when it's 2 hander time and fewer anglers ....

Yeah that's kind of along the lines of where my head is at I guess. :)

Pick up a spey rod, that'll keep you busy and challenged for awhile. ;)

Too much time spent at the Long Table aand studing about fish farms. ;D ;D

Very good post! I've never heard it summed up like that. I think that this "LAW" is a very big part of why many people move on from Salmon fishing to Steelheading, because each fish you catch requires so much time and effort. Switch it up.
-
You could take me out on the river! A total newb who hasn't caught any kind of fish on the vedder. Pretty please! ;D
-
I started getting the urge to head out again at work today. I like fishing in cool wet weather, so after work I headed out for about 30 mins or so. Was good times... and only a couple guys around. :)
-
Maybe you just need a change of scenery, I can think of some less productive flows within your area. Chances are you wont hook a steel but a river I havent been to before, or even one I only visit once or twice a year ALWAYS gets me wound up on the drive out.
-
Thanks!! I headed out today with a couple good buddies.... one of which I hadn't fished with for years. Was good times and almost fish for all...lol ;D
-

I don't know you... but I'm starting to not like you very much. 30 minutes after work, after a 3 week break and fish on! Even providing a photo for fish porn.

Lol... Well I don't like me very much most of the time either.... pretty much like all my friends...haha Wish I had have been able to get a pic of a couple of our fish today... but it was just one of those spots and one of those days... :P ;D

Did you guys even land any today. I could not believe it when you guys called me from the river that your landing ratio was so poor. Kind of makes me feel better that I am not able to do any fishing right now as I am not missing much lol ;D

lol.. I was bound to have one of those days sooner or later.. I had only lost 2 all year...haha Now I've lost 5.. no biggie! At least i got to play a couple of them for a while...and if it wasn't for some bloody magnetic log... ;D :P
-
To funny.magnetic log is right i think every fish in that river had gps coordinatesd for that tree.
-
If we didn't fish the same water i might be sorry for you but hey, we do so take some more day's off ;D
By the way, those two guys are the same ones that have low holed me a couple of times, and pulled a couple of hatches on me as well.
I have gotten to know them a little bit so now i have a little fun with them whenever i get there after them.
I just inform them i'm going to be low holing them and is that okay? Haven't had a no yet, but if it is i don't mind either, playing cleenup has been fun too.
ripping a fish out of water that they just finished, is quite rewarding as well. Remember, we are having fun right :D
Also, thanks again for returning that pack of my bud that you found. Nice to meet honest people.

Lol... I haven't seen them for a while now... Think I got my mojo back the last few days to with new spots and a couple good people !! Lol
And no worries on the pack. Don't know if I believe in karma, but I figure no good deed goes unpunished... Or you know however that saying goes.. Haha ;D
-
If i was having the same results as you, id be having trouble finding motivation to come home from the river, lol.
-
To tell you the truth... I picked 5 runs in coho season... And I haven't really strayed to much from those runs, just narrowed it down a bit to 3 main runs.. And just lately on advice from others went looking for more challenging water... Found a couple nice spots thanks to a buddy that produced some fish... But still planning on starting or finishing in one of my main spots to fish... My thoughts, why leave producing spots that I know well.. Lol I'm also pretty sure that there is no way I'll ever see these two cranky old cane wavers in these new runs.. Haha
-
I hear ya, if it isnt broke, no need to fix it. Being my first year, i confined myself to a popular meat hole for the first couple months as thats where i was seeing fish caught. I know better now and have seen much more of the river and there are so many nice spots. I am also starting to see that when a fish is caught, it is very likely that similar conditions on a different day is likely to produce again.
