Title: BARE WADERS
Post by: Every Day on February 03, 2009, 06:51:55 PM
I got a pair of BARE Blackwaters around 4 (maybe 5) months ago. Today I noticed that there are little holes (almost like cuts) running along both sides of the seam in the crotch area on both legs. Has any one else had this happen to them?

If I have the reciept will the tackle shop I bought them from take them back or would I have to go to the actual BEAR outfitters store  ???

Thanks,
Dan

I had something similar happen to my Bare jacket. I returned it to the Bare store and they repaired it for free.

Lose some weight chubby, those thunder thighs are rubbing against each other too much while you walk. ;) Don't worry, just bugging you, I have the exact same problem with Simms Freestone. :-[ :-\ ;D

Take care back the store. I've been told that the warranty turnaround is longer for Bare than Simms. Good luck.

You guys got to learn to walk a little more bow leg,ya know like you've been riden a horse for a while before you put your waders on.My freestones are going on 3 and no chafing problems here. The guys at reaction warned my about the possible problems with the breathables so I learned myself not to rub my crotch when I'm walking to the next fishing hole. ;)

Send it to BARE (please note: not spelled Bear) yourself. Turn around was fast with my Blackwater's. Maybe it was because they just sent me brand new ones. I had the same problem as you.

What are they, never heard of them before?
I realized my spelling mistake just now sorry.... anyways where do I send them?
Is there a factory close to Chilliwack...
I really dont want to send them in because I only have 1 pair of waders, thats gonna suck going without them.

Bare is located in Langley on Production way. It is called Fitz Wright. This is typical wear if the waders are not sized properly.  They will charge a shipping fee and if they are dirty they charge an extra $15 for cleaning.

http://www.patagonia.com  (note spelling is Patagonia not patigonia  ::) )

I have two pairs of Patagonia's, both are still going strong, no leaks or issues  ;D I would not hesitate to buying another pair.

All breathable waders eventually wear out and develop leaks. There's only so much a fabric material can take. Leaks along seam tape are common because the fabric is forced to hinge along the edge of the thicker tape material. A well design wader combined with good quality fabric (both face and membrane material) can reduce a lot of these seam tape edge failures. It's also important to have properly fitted waders.

that's rubbing along the seam tape.  It'll happen if your inseams are too long and you get some wrinkles on the insided of the legs.  It happened to an improperly fit pair of Cabelas waders of mine.  I just sent them back and got my money back.  Been with Simms G3's for several years now and they still look and work great.

Next time look for a pair of waders that fit a little better. This may mean purchasing a different brand but those wear marks are not poor manufacturing or material issues but sizing issues. For quicker service you may want to take the time to go to the Bare facility in Langley, others that have get decent customer serice. If you take them back to the store you purchased them at it will take longer.

For the love of god if some one out there knows of the altime durable dry breathable wader, please let me know where to get them and why I should get them.

Simms Guide range,

not cheap - but they breath like no tomorrow!!

And tough as old boots! As well as having an A1 warrenty and repair to go with them.

If you want performance, IMO you have to pay for it. Although I have heard lots of good things about Pategonia, as already reported earlier on this thread by a first hand user, which are cheaper than Simms. But not tried them myself so can't comment.

cheers,

Paul.

Moved into a pair of Simms G3's a few months back and, believe me, if you like to fish, and you like to be comfortable, they are worth every penny!!  There isnt  one thing that is not outstanding about them.

Well starting to get really fed up with Bare.....
I am now on my 2nd pair of waders (which I just got back 2 weeks or so ago, after them being gone for around 4 weeks) and guess what. YEP they are leaking AGAIN. This time it is only from the knees down and for NO APPARENT reason. I want to take them back in... but don't want to spend another 35 bucks just to get them sent out and get new pairs taht I will need to wait another month for.

I am really wondering why the hell I spent almost $400 bucks on breathables.... for all you people out there thinking of getting breathables don't get Bare or stick with your neoprenes. At least my neoprenes lasted almost 4 years before the feet gave out   ::)

New Blackwaters are in the development stages and from what I have heard from Fred's, is that they might be available for this upcoming Fall ???  Apparently they will look similar to the Simms style of Gore-tex waders.  If you are there and you want more info, he might have some more concrete details.

I used to sell bare wetsuits and drysuits way back when.  Sounds like they haven't changed a bit since those days :)

Another vote for simms.  Mine are too big for me and they still don't come apart like that, and I put a good number of days on them (not recently though  :'( )  I have pinholes from sloppy use but i patch them up and I'm good to go :)  Awesome product.

I'v had the same pair of Bare breathables for 5 years. Used them guiding for one year and the last 4 years used them alot. I've never had one problem with them. Not even the the slightest leak

From my experience, all waders if used enough will generalte leaks along the seam edges due to the seam tape as others have stated. The most common area of these leaks are on the inside of the leg and around the knees. Companies like Simms have rectified this problem by removing the seams from the inside of the legs and placing them on the front and back to reduce the friction areas. You obviously pay more for waders like this but it is definaltey worth it. The new style Bare waders have improved, however they still have seams on the inside of the legs.

Anybody find any pics of the new waders anywhere?  The Bare website doesn't seem to have them.
