first year out here, do you guys think we got enough rain for the fish to come up river or should i just stick to beach casting tomorrow am?
guess i could bring both rods as they seem like fairly safe spots to park and not have to worry about your vehicle

ya i checked the cam during daylight hours just wasnt too sure as ive been listening to the rain all night.
i figure the river below the weir could possibly rise enough as the river must collect water rain runoff the whole way down to the mouth.
im gonna go check my spots in the am but itll be tough to see if more fish moved up in the dark.

Has anybody caught a salmon at Ambleside recently by casting from the beach without wading?

If so, about how far have you had to cast?

Is it better to cast from the beach or the pier?

ive caught fish the beach, never tried the pier as craning up a decent sized salmon probably is going to happen

Have you also tried casting from one of the jetties?

see spoon chuckers catching on the rocky point between the statue and the cap estuary and also right of the beach between that point and the cap river.

You could also put on a pair of shorts and wade, no need for waders this time of year.

i use a blue fox green pixie spoon and cast it as far i can i wear waders though

i see people hook up on the rocks just about everytime i go

Yes but this was a month ago on BC day. I was casting from the beach immediately east of the breakwater with a spoon- the fish were fairly close to shore at that time so long distance casting was unnecessary. I was using a 3/8 ounce blue/silver Gibbs croc. Went back a few weeks later to the same general area and the fish have more or less moved on somewhere else.

Was out at the cable pool on labour day with some guys from the shop, there fish jumping everywhere but no bites.

Everyone there was leaving empty handed.

I have heard of some people having success using a chrome and blue kwikfish up by the mouth. Some ore rain should bring them closer too shore.

September is always a tough month on the Capilano River if water level has not risen. The fish are stale and have seen everything thrown at them despite of how fresh they may look. The first rain and dam water release will see a few good days of fishing when fresh fish shoot up the system.
