The Thompson River downstream of Kamloops Lake opens to sport fishing for
fin fish other than salmon, EFFECTIVE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7TH (to December 31,
2005). A small portion of the Fraser River near Lillooet (from the Hwy 99
bridge at Lillooet to the BC Hydro tail race outflow channel) which was
previously closed will also open October 7th and remain open.
This action is in response to recent catch data from the Albion test fishery
indicating steelhead returns above the threshold set for sustainability
goals.
In addition, the following waters, scheduled to be closed on January 1, 2006
(as per the synopsis), will now remain open then: Nahatlatch River below
Nahatlatch Lake, Seton River below Seton Lake, Stein River, and Frances and
Hannah lakes.
Please note that salmon fishing on the Thompson closed on October 1st and
will not be re-opened. Any salmon caught incidentally in the steelhead
fishery must be released.
Anglers should be reminded that the use of single barbless hooks is required
and that the use of bait is prohibited in the Thompson River upstream of
signs located near Martel. In addition, the Thompson is a classified water
during the upcoming opening. Therefore a Classified Waters Licence and
Steelhead Conservation Surcharge Stamp are also required.
