For upcoming coho in tidal:
Probably asked many times but need help:

Is it better to put floro leader on braided main when spoon/spinner
fishing or will putting it directly scare fish?

If putting leader on braided main is this the proper setup:
Braided main/swivel/leader/swivel/ring/hardware
This won't affect how it moves, right?
(Most hardware have the swivel and ring on it)

For the Tidal Fraser River, it really doesn't matter what thin lines you use for a couple of reasons.

You're fishing for migrating fish. Unlike fish that are holding in a pool or run, fish in the Fraser River are constantly on the move so they are not easily spooked. Each fish most likely only gets to see your lure once as it goes upstream and more often than not it'll follow your lure if it sees it.

Water visibility in the Fraser River is usually at around 3ft, plus or minus 1, the most. In this condition, moving fish most likely don't even notice your fishing line.

I use Maxima Ultragreen 8lb mono for casting lures, 12 or 15lb for fishing with roe. The amount of silt in the water also causes abrasion on the line so you don't want to go too thin, braided or mono.

By tidal I assume you mean the fraser? If so, then fluoro is unnecessary since the visibility is so poor. Tying your lure straight to your braid will not spook fish.

Putting a short leader of lower rated mono at the end of your braid is recommended, not so much for lure action, but rather if you snag up you wont risk breaking off some huge length of braid to sit in the river.

Use this Albright special knot. I put a little knot sense on and it rides through the guides well. Very easy to tie once you get it. I like it better this way as it's easier to bust off the flouro if you snag up.

Not sure exactly how long a mono/fluoro leader I should have for the Cap, but I've been using about 4 feet of 8lb fluoro at the end of the 10lb Nanofil recently added to my reel. (Too short? Too heavy? Thoughts?)
I absolutely love the control and feel so far - and with the exception of one good gap-out into the trees today - I can land my spoon exactly where I want it.

Thanks! That is what I have and wasn't sure if I needed the leader or not.

I alsways use a slightly lighter leader...as someone mentioned, it protects your mainline in case of a snag.
