Title: Celebrating 2010's World Rivers Day on the Vedder!
Post by: Rodney on September 08, 2010, 12:36:00 PM
World Rivers Day is on Sunday September 26th and the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society (http://www.cleanrivers.ca) invites you to take part in this year's celebration!

We will be hosting a Chilliwack River cleanup on September 26th. Volunteers will meet and register at the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club House between 8:30am and 9:30am. There will be coffee and donuts provided by Tim Hortons for you. You will then be assigned to a section of the river and take part in the cleanup until Noon. Once the cleanup is over, there will be a BBQ waiting for you back at the club house, followed by entertainment, words from the directors and draw prizes. The entire event is FREE, this is our way of thanking all the old and new dedicated volunteers for keeping the Chilliwack River clean.

Please bring appropriate clothings and footwear (waders are not necessary but would help). Plastic gloves, pick-up tools, garbage bags will be available at the event for you. If you are not familiar with the Chilliwack River, not to worry because we will assign you to a group who knows the area. This is also a great way to learn new fishing spots. ;)

This will be our 9th World Rivers Day celebration! Celebrate by doing some early morning coho salmon fishing and giving something back to the river afterward. :)

Many forum members will be coming out to this so it is a good opportunity to meet others who you have interacted with for a long time.

See you on September 26th!

I hate to miss it but I won't be in the LML.
I'll be at Roche Lake with a bunch of crazy fly-fishermen that weekend.

Have fun!

Yeah Ill be out again. If only someone had mentioned free food, then this would have been a more frequent event for me.

I'm in, but your voting won't be an accurate count. My fishing buddy and my son will come too, and I can't vote 3 times. Nonetheless, it's in the calendar.

Excellent. :)

The vote is just for fun to see how many forum members are in, not looking for an accurate count. This event actually gets over 200 people attending each year and most are actually not fishermen. Lets see if we can increase the participation by fishermen this year.

Well I'm happy to report that I finally took my son out (yes bb'ing the Fraser for sox against everyones advice but let's not hijack talking about that) and I'll say he's now on his way to being a fisherman. Confident with bait casting reel, has caught a few, likes gutting and cleaning them and tonight BBQ'd one. Just gotta teach him to filet them. Anyways, my point is, count 3 'fishermen' in!

Bumping it back to the top!

With so many vocal concerned anglers on forums, we should see a big turnout.

Bad timing Rod. We have that Fall Fish In on the other site. Wish I could do my part but the cabin is booked.

I was hoping to but my missus decided on a Whistler trip with her girlfriend and now I must stay home and babysit.  :(

Was hoping to get in a little coho fishing beforehand and ending off with meeting a few of the forum members at the BBQ.

My apologies, as I won't be able to attend that weekend.

I do take a bag with me when I go fishing and do clean up as I miss these events with not living there and like to do my share in keeping the rivers clean from debris.

You're gonna miss the good coho fishing. ;D

In case others who can't make it to this one but still want to take part on September 26th, there are in fact many similar events happening across BC. This link has the listing:

Lew and Dave were out checking the upper river for 3 hours or so this morning and have mapped out the areas that need attention. They will be doing the assigning as people check in between 8:30 and 9:30. Unfortunately there will be plenty for all to deal with. :(

Jack went over the Lower as well and I donot believe it is bad as some of the Upper.

I have ordered plenty of donuts and coffee for an energy boast before the volunteers head out to tackle the mess. ;D

When Lew and I checked the limits hole today for garbage we found the area to be well posted with No Fishing signs.  No anglers either.
Chris is correct - there is a lot of garbage between Tamihi and Slesse Creek.   C'mon out and give us a hand to clean this gorgeous river folks and remember .... free lunch.

I was there , garbage bag in hand, and it was a good day out; the rain held off for the most of it. The only down side to the day was i didn't get the opportunity to fish the river after the clean up. I had to get home to the kids. Good job cleaning out there today to all those that helped.

The rain held durring the cleanup and it was nice meet a few more people from the site. The area I helped cleanup seemed not as bad as the last couple cleanups, which was positive. Still cannot believe the amount of garbage that gets collected from the river by everyone in a few hours.

I thought the river looked to be in better condition this year as well. No pink run this year = no fishermen to make a mess. River will probably need another clean up after this years salmon runs are done.
Nicefish it was nice to meet you and congrats on the after clean up fish.
