From One who was there...

The meeting could be summed up as following:

DFO Does not know if the smolts survive the run out of the Fraser, they have no data.

DFO Does not have data on ocean survival. Since they don't know if the smolts come out of the Fraser or not, they say ocean survival is Poor.

DFO is basing numbers on data from 2006. Since that was only 6 years ago, that data they feel is fine.

So DFO said in a round about way that they don't know a ****ing thing, and the only tool in the box is to cut a fishery that has a (suspected) %11 impact in half..

DFO said fish farms have zero impact on salmon runs. No problems. Nothing to look at!
There was loud and clear discontent which was countered with cold shoulder shrugging.

The FN contingent was there, however remained ominously silent for the most part. In recent press releases, they are attempting to paint the Recreational Sector as the "Bad Guy" in this situation. The latest sham in this regard had Ernie Crey publicly asking the Recreational Sector to join them in their drive towards "conservation". This from the user (abuser?) group that has ongoing impacts ranging in excess of 35% on the noted stocks of concern.

Good attendance (approaching 500). The message was sent. DFO's "puppet" toed the Party Line, and answered most of the real questions with bafflegab (as usual). Now we await the results...

Cheers,
Nog
