« on: December 02, 2010, 07:34:01 AM »

What will you buy GLoomis or Sage?  Price - Gloomis $549 and Sage $600. Maybe somebody used both and can provide some comments.

Hey lapa . both are nice rods . Gloomis has a bid fastter action than the sage ,but again their line rated are big difference( GLX 6-10 lb and sage rated 8-17lb). so it is all depend what, where and how you going to use it. Happy shopping...

One vote for GLoomis STR1563(8-12LBS)

You can handle any fish in any conditions with a no problem.

What is the price ticket for this rod? Any LM shops have them?

?    Just a heads up lapa, all the sage gear rods were 500 plus tax = 560  at freds a month ago so dont pay 6 for one elsewhere. Unless you live in van then the gas and time might not be worth it. I have a 3113ct and its a sweet rod, have not fished the loomis but imagine I would love it also. Pretty much comes down to personal preference, Imo
Thanks Fin. I appreciate it.

I also have the Gloomis 1563 8-12lb and a sage 3113 lb - I agree the Loomis is a faster rod and probably a little more backbone in the butt

The Loomis -  longer rod is an advantage in open non-windy conditions  - easier to mend line, long casts are effortless

- The sage seems to be a little more sensitive - you can feel bottom splitshot tapping bottom
I know it seems like an odd contradiction, one would think the longer rod would be that much more sensitive, but that doesn't seem to to be the case - just my opinion
If you have to choose between them it probably boils down to the types of places you fish on the river and the reels you have to balance them - both are sweet rods

Get them both. I have quite a few sage rods and a couple of loomis and the loomis are relly nice. Crisp action, different than the Sage.

The GLX has the faster action and I believe the Sage CP has more of a moderate action. I found that when ever I tried loading up a moderate action blank for a 'Johny Long-Bomb', there was almost always a tendency to get a back lash of some degree. Many anglers fish right at there feet, but as a personal preference, it's nice to know you can whale one across to a slick on the far side when you want to. Also, keep in mind the butt section is shorter on the Sage than the GLX.

Got STR1352 GLX CP  11'3"   6-10 line. It is so light. It should be amazing rod for coho, pink and steelhead. But I like to fish for spring and chum too. Should I sell it and buy 1563 or it should be OK ???? Any feedback?

As I said earlier I have the 1563 and I know guys fish springs and chum with it - I don't think I would fish springs with it unless you had a lot of river bank or wanted a really drawn out battle.  The 1563 feels incredibly light even though it has great backbone too - so maybe the 1352 is similar - I would say that springs and chum would still be out of its class - I bet it would be a great light coho rod.  Good luck with the decision!!
