Now that the steelhead season is over for most, how did you guys fair?
As for me, I only managed to hook 8 and took 2 hatcheries ( 1 let go because it was too early ) and 5 wild.
That is going out almost twice a week for the duration of the season.

lost count but didn't fish as much as i wanted best day 9 to the beach
-
It was so so this year. Lots of fishing for the one or two bites per day. Some day notta, other days 4 +. Killed 5 hatchery, let almost as many go. Prob got 20 or so wilds to the beach. I figure about 30 plus fish in as many days on the water. Prob averaged out to 1 per trip. Nothing like the last 2-3 seasons fishing was easy for multiple hookups. Hope next season the numbers are up. Time to go wash up the boat and gear to hit the saltchuck.

Among 12 trips, 8 fish hooked and 3 hatchery...All released.
All 8 fish caught on 3 days, 3+3+2...empty hand for rest of trips.
-
9 hooked and 3 wild landed. Lost track of the number of trips but at least 40 be they only 2 to 3 hours long in most cases.
-
6 trips. 1 wild (in December), one hatchery. I'm happy with my season.
-
Did 5 trips with total of 15 hours of fishing=0 steelies 0 hook ups. Toughest year in memory. Hope to get out Spey fishing before river closes-Vedder canal
-
Hey fly rod fish peach and hang on.
-
48 trips, 55 fish! Well over 50% of my trips were only 1-3 hours long.
Was a tough year overall, but we had some great days, along with some weekends of very tough hiking for only a couple fish.
Best day between me and the girly was 12 fish.
She was 22 fish for 26 trips... not bad for her first year ever fishing ;D

I found there to be a lack in hatchery fish. Wilds was on par with normal, but not so many hatchery fish. With the number of days fished compared to last couple years, and sitting almost 40% less fish, but fishing 10+ days on what I did last year, makes you wonder where all the fish went. Still good fishing, but it can always be, and has been the last couple seasons much better.

11 trips, 7 wilds and a couple bull trout to the beach.
-
Fished at least one day a week for the season.Ended up hooking 30 and landing 15, of which 3 were hatch and 12 were wild. Not bad for my second season chasing steel.

:)

About 20 trips to the vedder, 20 fish landed, two hatchery fish, and few bull trouts. Could've been better but nothing to complain about. Beats staying at home. :-\
-
Fished the Quinsam River on the island about 12 times, hooked 9 fish, landed 6 fish, 4 summers, 2 wild which one was 20lbs so that made my season. Fished a couple of hrs. when on the river. Did I mention the hordes of cutthroat in that river now.
-
43 trips and counting i still can chuk flys lol and my total was 38 fish landed and 5 lost this year was by far my best landing year lol
-
I wasn't aware that steelhead season stopped...
-
Were you aware it even started? Did the float go down yet?

Do you guys have like a piece of paper you keep a tally on?

I just jot down at the end of every day hours fished, fish caught, and where I went.
Just a word file that I throw down every trip of the year.
I find it helps year to year to see number fluctuations. Kinda cool to see how long diff gear lasts and stuff as well.
Also helps a lot in planning trips easily, as I can look back and see when different rivers were fishing well while others weren't. Biggest factor is also water heights... I plan my trips around water height a lot, and it's hard to remember that a few years later...

I sense sarcasm. Lol. It does sound funny to keep a tally however I have yet to meet a rod that does not keep track when it comes to Steelhead. Many of them are not going to post on a forum how many but they do know and share that with their buddies. That fact alone indicates to me how special these fish are. I think at some point most rods stop counting the number of salmon they hook. I remember off the top of my head the total number of steelhead I have hooked, for every year that I have been steel heading (5 seasons) This year was my best year to date, despite so many people complaining about few fish.

I bet they do. I keep a detailed journal of my season fishing for sea run cutthroat off the beach. I can tell you the date, the tide, water and weather conditions, how many fish were hooked, how many were landed, wild vs hatchery, their size, fishing pressure, and anything esle notable. While I don't fish for steelhead, not doubt I would display the same OCD tendencies :) A "Write in the Rain" all weather notebook can be handy.

Rite you are! That's what I meant to type...

Yeah, its called your fishing license. ;) Hang on to that old one too as they may ask you for survey info. It was really easy for me to keep track this year, as of the dozen or so trips I made with the single hander, I ended the season (may get out once more) without a steelhead to the beach, although a few big dollies/bulltrout made a few trips enjoyable.
