The next day....

Bob, "So I read on FWR last night that there were a group of poaches fishing in a closed area on the Fraser!"
Ken, "Really?! That's rediculous!"
Bob, "Ya, but it sounds like there was a DFO staff around but he said he couldn't do anything!"
Ken, "What?! That's stupid."
Bob, "Ya, we should go do something! The guys on there will be carrying bear sprays from now on so those poachers better watch out! I bet they were probably using barbed hooks."
Ken, "Ya, they should be worried!"

The day after the next day....

Ken, "So Bob told me yesterday that he read on FWR about some poachers in a closed area on the Fraser, and they were keeping fish left and right, and using barbed hooked too!"
Steve, "What the heck?! Where are the DFO officers when you need them?!"
Ken, "Well, apparently there were DFO officers while this was happening but they didn't do anything!"
Steve, "Damn them, I guess we have to do something to stop all this madness. These poachers are everywhere on the Fraser."
Ken, "Ya, hey you wanna come? I'm shopping for bear spray this afternoon."

Don't worry, Ken, Steve and Bob are my imaginary friends. ;)

I understand we are all frustrated and outraged when we see people not obeying to the regulations that govern our sport out there. The best thing to do is to simply phone in and report what you see. Too often, as demonstrated above, both on the internet or personal interactions, misinformation are passed on all the time. Not saying your source is not valid Thomas, but as the information becomes third, forth, fifth hands, the story is usually not the same anymore. ;) Just be a little careful on what is being posted. The best thing is to remind readers what the ORR phone number is, where the fishing boundaries are and what people should do when violations are witnessed.

these are not officers at the scale ba(ocassionaly conservation officers go down there but usually it is just DFO surveyors)r, but the guy that goes down that works for DFO is just a surveyor.  He has no more authority over the illegal fisherman than you or I do.

trust me you dont want to go there :P.

Its on the south side of the river near hope.  Park near the weigh scale (believe it or not) and look for the trial down to the river. Its about a 15 minute walk down.

Nice.

The types that made that area get closed down are at it again, most likely engaged in non-selective angling method to boot.  :(

The observer should have taken notes and the likes of these guys. Us common folk are supposed to ORR so why cant they do it too?

if low returns persist at this point the way they have, at this point, we will be lucky if any of us get fishing for much longer...and since there may be just no fishing...it'll be open season on poachers--not by me..but the commoner walking past you.

Dropped in for a couple hours yesterday. boy-o-boy are guys really pushing the limit when it comes to the boundary sign. It seamed every time I lloked up to the top, every one has progressed up towards the top 10 feet at a time. Many guys fishing restricted waters in my view.

Most poachers are meat hunters. They are not into the enjoyment of seing the rod bounce up and down during a fight or how the fish is peeling lines off the reel. They are not into how you utilize your skills to entice a fish to bite.

All they want is MEAT...MEAT...MEAT
