Title: light spinning combo.
Post by: Mayor McSkunk on September 13, 2013, 08:54:07 PM
I'm looking to pick up a new light spinning combo and would really appreciate any suggestions or opinions. I want something that is decent quality. I will be targeting trout in lakes.

it's a decent combo. I still use the use the reel, I lost the top section of the rod, but it was 30 dollars two years ago too. don't be fooled by the "sale"

I bought mine "on sale" a couple years back and then had a friends son leave it up in squamish. Headed back and picked it up "on sale" again lol. About the top section, I noticed if u don't firmly put it together occasionally dang thing will fly off during casting.

I have the Fenwick HMX with a Pfleuger President reel, it works well for small spinners.  I think I paid around $150 total at Army and Navy.

4 lb line with Blue Fox vibrax spinners :)

My favourite ultralight spinning combo right now is a 6' Daiwa Spinmatic Tuflite, rated 2 - 6lb. This is a very thin, and slow rod, which i enjoy using for trout and kokanee in lakes, bull and cutthroat trout in the Fraser River, bas's, carp, pikeminnow, even the odd coho salmon. It retails around $80. The reel to go with it is a Shimano Sahara 1000, which has a tiny spool and goes well with 4lb test main. The reel retails around $60.

Hi rod. Do you mind telling me which retail sell the sahara 1000 for 60$?

I have no idea. I said around, so plus or minus $10 if I remember correctly.

I use cabella's ultralight 6' 2-6lb rod ($139) and a Pflueger President reel ($49.99)

I have limited experience but I really like them both.

I also have this set up, works well for pinks.  Good action for a light wait rod, I run 8lb test.

x2 on the daiwa reel (I believe Barry's has them) and x2 for president reel.
If you get a chance go to cabella's or sports authority in the states everything is waaay cheaper and the selection is overwhelming
