Title: Free bear rug, fly tying material?
Post by: Howlongsyourleader on August 16, 2016, 01:13:45 PM
I was given a rather tattered bear rug. It's too worn out to be put on display and before I chuck it away I'm wondering if anyone wants some bear fur for fly tying. Text me for pictures, 778 241 15seveneight.

What would someone tie with brown/black bear?

Bear Buggers?
Bear Leech?
Bear nymphs?

I have a small patch of bear fur but I honestly don't really know what to tie with it.

Any ideas?

Interesting - moments after posting my question what to use bear fur for - a friend sent me a text that bear with some UV flash is a killer for Springs and does quite well in the Columbia for Rainbows. He didn't have any concerns of posting this. Ties it on an XL size 4 in small clumps at the head like wings. No need for body wrap just circle the hook. With and without weighted beads or eyes as required.

Bear hair is used in streamer, steelhead and Atlantic Salmon patterns. Sub it for brown bucktail. Bear is finer and will move better than bucktail
