Title: Steveston Hardware will be closing 40% off ( they have fishing gear )
Post by: arimaBOATER on September 09, 2018, 03:08:55 PM
Village of a Steveston is changing thru the last few years. The lumber yard was sold for 22 million so someone told me. A Save On food store is being built at that spot & apt units on top of it. How will they make $$$$ ? There's 4-5 pharmacy (s) in the area already plus a food supermarket. There's no population in a south or west direction. ( Fraser R & Georgia Straight ) Nikita or whatever name fishing store closed down 3-4 yrs ago. Now the Steveston Hardware will be closed soon. They have all sorts of home but also marine supplies & sports fishing gear. I seen it coming as whenever going into the store there was normally only 1-2 customers... Went there only 2-3 times a year. After this location closes a Steveston Village will only have 1 store remaining that sells sports fishing gear / commercial.
After the gov. nails people with taxes, utilities, rent, bank payment etc...the average joe blow has nothing left to spend. (Thus these stores close) I hate change. Boooooooooooooo.
The day I go for a bike ride & Gerry Park has highrises is the day I will " give up the ghost " .

That is to bad. I go to the Langley store sometimes to get marine parts. I did find them a bit pricey but convenient. Retail has taken a real hit from online purchasing from giants like amazon.

I have spent my entire life in Richmond and a lot of time in Steveston as my dad used to own a commercial crab boat. Steveston is now far from what I remember and enjoyed as a youth. Now Pats Galley is also closed. I agree A- boater, boooooo

The Langley store is a dumpster fire.  Indifferent staff and always looks like it has been hit by a hurricane.

The product on the shelves and racks are so disorganized, messy, dusty etc.  I get that retail is hard hit, but it doesn't even look like they try to keep things respectably tidy.

exactly right...I gave up trying to give the Langley store my business....pretty much ignored when I visited.

Last time I went to the Steveston store again pretty much ignored, finally found someone to pull me 50' of rope...while waiting, I watched an old man who worked there disgustingly flirting with a very young girl at the cash machine who seemed super embarassed, I asked her if she was OK with his behaviour she said somewhat, she wasn't planning on working there much longer.

I left there thinking I should have said something.

Anyways, retail is tough unless you are as big as Bass Pro who can wait out the competition until they go teets up.

The local Bass Pro is losing money ( from what I hear ). I have close friends in the band that owns the land. They claim that unit was built to hold a casino in the event Bass Pro moves out. I dont want to see retain go away. We dont have same day delivery in Canada like they do in the states. When I want something I often want it now. I also want to touch things. Get a feel for it that sort of thing.

Used to work for that company Believe Me they're still making money and couldn't care less if the place is a pigpen.

Now Pats Galley is also closed.
Now that is sad the guy who owned it (peter?) was a  great cook-there's a great new sushi place now though.

How would you know?

Says someone who used to work there before he moved and started at Cabelas in Abby. That's what he said anyhow. I stop there every time I go to the Ferry. They have scaled back on staff. The Tracker boat Center has gotten smaller over the past year. Plus every time I am there its DEAD !  have you seen Cabelas on a Saturday ? Its nuts. Bass Pro around the same time same day is a ghost town.
