Was at Rice Lake to fish this morning, haven't been there for a few months. Really disappointed in how it is being treated by the some of the rotten apples in the fishing community. You can walk around the entire lake and not see one bit of trash or garbage, but go near any of the fishing spots and it's embarrassing. I went to one spot and get this, someone had cut and torn down branches and ferns to make a shelter for the rain that was left up, probably in the last week or so. There was blue and yellow nylon rope and plastic garbage bags hanging from the trees. I spent fifteen minutes cleaning up the area which included:
2 garbage bags, 1 water bottle, 1 metal can, 1 pink towel with burn marks, two handfuls of fishing line, 3 empty cans of powerbait, a Tim Horton's cup, 1/2 dozen cigarette butts and someone's leftover grapefruit peelings.
There is no excuse for any litter at Rice Lake with all the garbage cans around.
There was also someone there fishing with two fishing lines as well, who stopped once they saw me coming (busted).
I would really like to see the Park Rangers walk thru this area so that the polluters and poachers know they are being watched. Thanks, needed to get that rant of my chest.
