Title: 2007 Vedder River conditions
Post by: Geff_t on September 27, 2007, 07:50:11 PM
Well with all this rain what does the veddar look like. Does anyone know.

I think it's going to take a few days of rain to have much effect due to recent dry spell.

Was there this afternoon, good fishing with the rain bringing them in. Lower than ever though. Maybe rain make river rise?

If there is a local resident who could give us an up todate forecast status on rainfall that would be appreciated there are a bunch of us looking to hit the river tommorow - Vedder.

Chris usually posts regular water condition updates since he is not far from the river.

The river should still be very fishable tomorrow, and should fish very well.

Chris just phoned from the river. It is up by about 5 or 6 inches and a bit more coloured, but very fishable. Clarity is also improving and will most likely continue if it stays dry today.

Post by: chris gadsden on September 30, 2007, 04:26:31 AM
Poured here all night, I believe it will be in poor condition but I notice the gauge at Vedder Crossing has not risen too much as it is most likely snowing up top as it is cool out this morning so it may be in. :-\

Go out and check and if it is unfishable come to the river cleanup as we celebrate BC Rivers' Day,the TV camera's will be there so you might get on TV too. ;D ;D There will be plenty of food, displays, entertainment and great prizes. Coffee and donuts will be there at the start of registration at 8:30. The festivities go on to around 2:00.

There is not charge for anything so try to attend and celebrate one of our great rivers in British Columbia, even if it may be a bit dirty today. :-\

Thanks Chris. Woke up this morning looked out the front window and just crawled back into bed. It was raining way too hard. Searun phoned at 5 and said he was doing the same. Oh well I guess a mental health day is in order soon.

I could not believe it, on the way to the cleanup I noticed the river looked ok, at 7 AM. :-[ I am sorry if my comments kept some of you away from the flow but I thought it would be a wipeout. :o Will check it at dark for you.

After an one hour nap after the cleanup slipped out to pick up the last of the recyclables at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, The Leaf Mobile is loaded now with them, a tidy sum for the CVRCC. I then went down to the Bell Run but nothing. Then to the Hydro Bridge area for the last 20 minutes, missed 2 of something, maybe smolts. Saw a nice coho taken ;D and then a pink brought in sideways. ::)

The good part although it is still raining the river was in great shape, I guess it is partly due to the low freezing level. While most of you work tomorrow I will be out fishing. ;D ;D ;D

Title: Re: Veddar conditions

Not the greatest when I checked it today so Lew and I decided to do some CVRCC business instead. I guesssit could have been fishable but when I can fish almost any day if I wish I can pick better conditions to do so. ;D

I will check later and file a report.

Sorry guys but what's the weather web site that I can check the water level of the Vedder?

I'm assuming that the water level is super high but how high? Thanks

PS. I thought I'd ask since it's somewhat related to this thread. Thanks

A friend was out today and he said the water was up about 6 inches but it was chocolate brown. He was there first light so it can be different now. Not really the best condition so save your gas money.

Here's a site that I use:

http://scitech.pyr.ec.gc.ca/waterweb/hydroportfolio.asp

Just go to "Edit List" and select Chilliwack River from the list.
Title: Re: Veddar conditions
Post by: chris gadsden on October 01, 2007, 04:38:04 PM
Just heard from someone who was at the river this afternoon, he said it is dirty. I will check it too, I might find a Maple Leaf Drennan as well with the rising waters. ;D ;D

This is what happens when some people ask for rain, never never do that at this time of year. :(

As well it provides a opportunity for some to take non biting fish. :-X

I will also confirm that it was fairly chocolatey too.  Not Chris' famous Double Double, but still has a fairly good tinge to it.

I was wondering what people were doing when they were asking for rain.  It looks like all that rain dancing that was going on will bring on another inch and a half tomorrow.
Title: Re: Veddar conditions
Post by: chris gadsden on October 01, 2007, 07:39:37 PM
Just got back from the Chilliwack Vedder and drove it from the Freeway Bridge, KWB and up to the famous Limits Hole. ??? I had to pick up some marker posts that Lew and Terry had out to identify areas to clean on BC Rivers' Day that were in the upper river.

The conditions at the Freeway Bridge and KWB I thought were very poor but by the time I got to the Limits Hole things were fishable. On the way down stopped at Tamahi Rapids and conditions were good there as well and they were below the active clay slides.

Fishing practices at the three mentioned places I visited had questionable methods. ::)

Will be a hard call for tomorrow depending of course on rainfall, no rain dances please.

Probably not using long enough leader to get down to the fish? ::)
Any news on Dewdney?

Just check conditions at Vedder Crossing and was surprised to see at the moment it is fishable. Of course conditions can change at any time due to the unstable clay slides.

I saw fish being pulled in as well.

It looked ok at first light yesterday but I did not get a look later. Of course it can change at anytime if some clay slips in from the slides. It is raining now again but when you live only 5 minutes from the river it does not matter. ;D

1 to 3 feet visibility today, depending on what part of the river you were at. Rain, thunder and lightning right now.

We had the same system come threw here and man did I get soaked when I was on the river. Good thing is the river here was in really good condition compared to the veddar. Heading back out after I take my son to school  ;D .

I like the sound of that. I am heading out to the river tomorrow and see what it holds for me.
I did grow up on the Vedder and fished through any conditions. A day out is better that any day indoors.
Will keep you posted on the days events. :D :D :D :D

River conditions excellent again today. I had many chances at first light but the fish were taking it very lightly. ???

I even switched over to a Maple Leaf DNE for the first time ever, just had the top of float showing so a slight dip I knew a fish was there, nice floats by the way.

I am not sure if the coho saw the fresh blue and white Maple Leaf logo and then let the bait go. ;D ;D

Although I did christen it with a nice wild buck, in the 7 pound range.

Very windy now and mild so it may melt some of the snow in the hills. Rain has just started, hope it is not what they forcast so the river will stay in.

Will give an updated river report at dark.

thanks for the report chris, i'm thinking of the chehailis as i agree w/ about the warmth/snow melt, but i ask you do you think it will colour up the upper river? seeing as you are a definite local!look forward to you pm report as the ved was my first choice but the rain has me thinking.........thinking too much.....i think i'm sick...........anglingitis! :)
Just got up from a nap and I see it is really coming down now. I will file a report on conditions around 7:30 but I do not think I will be checking above the slides. Maybe someone else will.
Title: Re: Veddar conditions
Post by: Rodney on October 07, 2007, 05:26:06 PM
Chris just phoned from Tamahi, reporting 6" of visibility. Snow melt is apparent, so those who are interested going tomorrow may want to change their plans.
Title: Re: Veddar conditions
Post by: chris gadsden on October 07, 2007, 07:19:10 PM
Yes things were not good and the river is on the rise. Visibility at the Limits Hole about the same as Tamahi. Snow melt happening. When I checked at KWB the Island was flooded but visibility was a bit better as silt maybe settles out some. Rain has stopped now but a hard call for tomorrow. :-\

Those at Tamihi were of course pulling them in. ??? Rodney has pictures of conditions if he wishes to post including one of a lovely sunset taken at Vedder Crossing on a Thanksgiving Sunday. The pictures shows we have a lot to be thankful for, happy Thanksgiving, enjoy it with friends and your loved ones.

Its not the rain thats causing the melt. It actually has not rained all too much today, its the rise in temperature
Title: Re: Veddar conditions
Post by: MERC on October 07, 2007, 09:53:05 PM
One thing we noticed earlier today was how warm the wind was when it started blowing.  Really weird but the snow melt is understandable given the mild conditions today.

If it stays cool that always helps keep the river in. Yesterday a very warm wind melted snow right to the top. I was surprised it cleaned up as fast as it did. ;D

Wonderful conditions this am. Had to cut short the trip this morning as attending a court case on a fellow caught dumping garbage on the Chilliwack. I had numerous chances, lost at least two coho including a clipped one right at the beach, broke a large chinnok jack off right also at the beach, knot in the 8 pound test leader. Landed a 15 pound chum, very bright.

Hope the rain holds off so I can get out later today. ;D ;D

Hey Chris I lost a nice chrome jack (real close to 62 cm.) right at my feet today, darn swivel on my colorado broke, never had a swivel break before :( Oh well lots more fish out there and I'm on holidays for the rest of the month ;D
Too bad, there sure is some nice chinook jacks around. I slipped out tonight and took a chinook jack below The Bell and missed two fish at the Twin Cedars, saw two taken.

The bite was not on like this morning. Light rain at dark so looking forward to good conditions in the morning. :-\

In all my years of fishing the Vedder, I have not seen springs this bright in such large numbers.  Usually, even the brightest Jacks will have a tinge of green on the body.  Leads me to believe that these fish did not hold up at the mouth of the fraser or the vedder and just blasted right through.

Yes and we have higher water this year so as you say they are just moving through the system.

Good to have higher water as the fish have not been subject to the questionable fishing practices for the lenght of time they had the past few seasons. ::)

Only light rain in CHWK now. ;D ;D

Was on the water this afternoon from 2:30pm to last light. The water was very good. I would say between 3 and 5 ft visibility depending where you are. It had not rained yet by the time I left.

By the way, I landed a few jacks as well but only brought one home.

Raining fairly hard now but did not have that much overnight. Also the river gauge shows no rise.

A lot of the early snow came down on the weekend with that mild wind so the river should be ok, this morning at least. Time to tie up a new leader and out to the flow, less than a hour to the Maple Leaf DNE is going down. Also need to put another logo on, it got a little water logged yesterday. ;D ;D

Please report on the conditions in the morning Chris. I will be looking on the site around noon and making my judgment mainly on your report.

I really appreciate all the condition reports you post.
As promised.

Conditions were still excellent when I left the river 10 minutes ago. We have had rain for a good part of the morning, it may have colored a little.

The good part was lots of action, I lost count of the fish I missed, broke off or lost. Steelhead King said I was using too small of hook. :-\ I did land 4 chinook jacks and retained one, lost what I believe were 2 coho.

When I left Rodney, Luke and Steelhead King were still pulling them in. ;D ;D

I decided to take a break and go to badminton later, there is always tomorrow or the next day ;D ;D if the river stays in which I believe it will.

Good fishing this afternoon DionJl  and please give us a report later.

I think I might just slip out to check the conditions now, might take the rod too. ;D ;D

Slipped out for the last half hour tonight and the river seemed a little higher and a bit more colored than this morning but still fishable.

All species were splashing around me as darkness closed in but no takers like they did this morning. I am still shaking my head with all the chances I had and only could bring 4 jacks to hand with only one silver one retained.

Tomorrow should be as good as this morning was and you should find fish throughout the whole system as they are moving most of the day, go get them.

conditions at first like were a little cloudy I thought but improved as the morning progressed.

Not much action at first light same as yesterday but then a good bite for a while with lots of action. The hook Steelhead King gave me yesterday did not help much as lost and missed many. :-X Only landed one silver chinook jack and a chum. Lost a hatchery coho at the beach as I was checking to see if it was a hatchery. I saw it was clipped and started to pull it ashore but I pulled the hook out, they sure know what way the water is. ;D

The rest of the boys had good action too. ;D

Guiding The Master this afternoon  ;D so we will see how he can do.

The water conditions should remain perfect for an afternoon outing. ;D ;D

Conditions improved this afternoon, I guided The Master to a "Hot Spot" and of course he was into a number of fish including two coho.

I did not want to be outfished so I just filmed the action and got some great video of The Master at work. ;D ;D The guiding fee and tip was great too, tips on how to catch them, from Nick.

Tomorrow is another day of course and I expect great fishing conditions and lots of fish. ;D ;D

Wow what great conditions we had this morning as Lew, Riverman, Chad and I had some good action.

Not like the previous two days when the bite was not first thing it was today. We missed many, barbed some and lost others. Our count was 6 or 7 coho beached all were unclipped accept the one I was fortunate to land, a nice buck in the 6 pound range. I also beached 3 others so you see it pays to use a Maple Leaf DNE float as I celebrated last nights Leafs 8-1 win. ;D ;D

After hitting many chinook jacks the last few days we landed none today. We saw some nice coho surface also.

Conditions should remain excellent for the weekend. ;D ;D Remember short floating with good roe is the ticket.

Thanks so much but I have so many floats and if I bring many more home I will turn into a full time fisherman as my wife will make me sleep not in the dog house but on the river bank. ;D ;D

When I got home yesterday my wife had cleaned up my room and there was a bag full of floats by the back door, lucky it was not a packed suitcase. ;D ;D

Hey Chris,

Your reports have been great over the past weeks, I really appreciate them.  I'm kinda new to this board, but know a lot of the people here fairly well (Rod, Dion, etc) through long-time memberships on other boards.  Keep the water condition reports and fishing updates coming!

I'm heading in to battle the crowds tomorrow, and again next week (Wednesday or Thursday).  You gonna be out at all?  Wanna meet up for a cast or two?

Cheers,
Tex

PS - I don't like the leafs though.  We might have to fight about that.  ;)

Not sure what my schedule is at this time as I will be getting ready for a meeting with the Minister re the current fishing issues. If you can, get out as it is hard to say how much of the coho season on the Vedder will be left.

Clear sky this am, try to get on the water at first light if you are after biting coho.

Although at times the bite came on when the sun hit the water, Rodney can attest to that a few years back as the bite then came on, go figure those coho.
Not fishing today as will leave the water to the weekenders and will be watching you pull them in. ;D ;D

A fellow got a nice chinook today also at KWB 25 pounds or so and it was a RED, nice fish.

A good week ahead too bad most of you will have to work but I will convey you info so you can read it while you are working. ;D ;D Maybe a sick day is in the offering for you. ???

Condition were excellent to start the day but when we returned after lunch it has silted up badly but by dark it had rounded back into shape, We were surprised to see a clay slide happen as it did not rain too much. I guess the river undercut into one of the clay slides.

Stay tuned for the video on shortfloating with The Master and Rodney to get the results of an all day trip. ;D ;D

Finished yesterday at the prison annd it had 6" of vis. With the rain overnight it'll be interesting to see how the river reacts wit the new clayslide.
The river was perfect at first light yesterday and within 10 min period around 9 am viability went to zero. Grey clay but was silty green by the end of the day at the prison run.

As I did the guiding yesterday  ;D it was The Master turn today and he took me to his hot spot, that of course was after breaky at Cookies. ;D ;D

When we arrived at the river we were pleased to see it was very fishable. Nick is into a nice wild coho right away but things were very slow after that as we pounded it for nearly 3 hours, well Nick pounded it as I took a break and took pictures and got a nice one of a dipper. Forgot to add yesterday I got a picture of a nice black bear, on the other side of the river. ;D ;D
We then moved down to the TC run and we ran into Lew and Gwyn who had fished it without much success.

After a gab session I went above the TC and Nick and Lew to it.

After 30 minutes I went to the TC also, just in time to see Nick landing a nice hatchery coho. ;D

I worked my way down to join him and I had my only two chances of the day and I capitalized on them  ;D with two good sized chinook jacks. Fish were rolling around us and Nick missed a few before we left at 1.

The river was still perfect when we left but the rain has started up once again. :-\

I hope it holds for tomorrow as it is another day out on the flow. ;D ;D

Rain and wind now but river was still fishable when I left.

Maple Leaf DNE float went down a few times with one chinook jack landed. 2:40 got one also.

Also while checking the time on my Ceil phone the MLDNE float down for a few seconds, finally I pull and have my biggest coho salmon on of the season  ;D but I had hooked it in the pectoral fin. ::) ??? Had I flossed it, I doubt it as the water is so slow in the water we are fishing. What most likely happened I took so long to set the hook the fish had just spit out the hook and when I set it the hook the hook found the body of the fish. :-[ I did not have to release it as the hook came out as I got it near the shore.

No flossing thread out of this please. ;D ;D

If you have a chance to get out this afternoon I would as if the rain falls like they say it may be the end of the coho season on the Chilliwack Vedder for 2008. :-\

After the river patrol was completed this morning I slipped down to The Lower Bell and was surprised how good the water looked so I quickly grabbed the rod as I had little time to fish as had to be home for a meeting dealing with gravel excavation issues. ::)

The Maple Leaf DNE Float was very happy to go swimming 5 times, in under a hour of fishing time.

The results were, 3 misses, 1 fish lost with species unknown and rewarded for my efforts with a chrome 5 pound hatchery doe. ;D ;D Fresh fish for the week.

Fairly cool out so river should stay in but one never knows with changing weather conditions.

Checked this morning from Limit hole to Vedder crossing, Save your gas money  :( Not worth trying due to colour, water is fishable at the very top but the SNAGGOTS and DIPPER/JIGGERS are busy  >:(
Thanks, I will check it this morning, maybe it will clear up later today a bit as cooler today and no rain. ;D ;D

There were around as our group landed about 15 before we went for lunch. Some of the boys went out again. I did not hear how they did as I was out on a CO patrol for 8 hours checking anglers and other issues that would certainly make an interesting journal.

I was on the Vedder from 1:00pm to arond 6:00pm. I was fishing in mid river. The conditions were fine until around 5:30pm when the water suddenly turned to clay/silt color, and no visibility at all after that. I guess clay may have fallen into the water. Did anyone else notice this?

For the second day in a row the morning conditions were great, in the middle river, below the clay slides and the fishing wasn't bad, for some. Yours truly did not even see his Maple Leaf DNE go down once but 2:40 put on a fishing clinc for Lew and I landing 3 species of salmon. At least Lew had two bites.

I saw close to 10 coho landed around me, ;D some nice bright ones too. Glad I got 2 yesterday but at least one chance would have been nice. :-[ ::) :o

River was very nice tonight and made about 12 casts before I tangled with a fresh doe chum.

Lots of chum surfacing as darkness approached. I am going to take a few days off from fishing and spend some time hunting so hopefully someone else will keep you updated on water conditions.

Conditions were really good early this afternoon with great viz.  River in the lower reaches has dropped about 10 cm since I last fished it on Friday.  Was starting to spit/rain when I left but it probably didn't do anything negative.  No reports from me for a bit too.

Gosh I hope you have not left as I looked at it this morning after a duck hunt and it is up about 10 or so inches in the Canal area. :o We got some rain last night but a fairly mild wind has created a snow melt once again. I think the visable is around a foot. Lots of leaves too but it should round into shape later, will try to give another report later in the day.

Thankfully I turned off the alarm last night, as I have to do some prep for a week in Toronto starting tomorrow AM...

I was out yesterday afternoon to the vedder, and found my favorite spot OVERRUN with people... Normally it would have been dead, which is why I left it so late.

The place had been picked clean of willing biters, and I only managed one tomato, which I lost. I was quite bummed.

I went to another system first thing in the AM that was full of dark fish, gin clear water, and only two takers... They were onto your presence the first time the line hit the water...

Not the best!

:(

A enjoyable late breakfast with The Master at Cookies who took 2 nice hatchery coho at the TC by the way helped relieve me of my stress of losing my Maple Leaf DNE float yesterday.
With a few chores done, a nap I made the TC run with an hour of fishing time left.

When I got there a fellow was into fish after fish that gave me hope of getting some too but I found out when I accidentally hooked his line later he had about a 8 foot leader ??? ::) with only a single jensen egg on, a least he had a barbless hook.

I moved into the top of the run to get away from this activity and after a few casts just as the new attached Maple Leaf DNE nearly reaches the log (Rodney will know the spot) ;D it disappears. Darn the log I think but by golly the log is moving. ;D

With this log a real obstacle when you hook a fish you have to try to pull the fish towards you to clear it and continue to play the fish. Luckily I am successful and a nice 6 pound doe coho lays in the water at my feet. I look for the missing fin but I see the adipose is still there, a unclipped one that quickly scoots away when the hook is pulled from the roof of its mouth.

Another 20 minutes of fishing equals not a bite and as I wade back to the Leaf Mobile as the rain dimples the water around me  I wonder if this will be the last coho I will beach this year, number 15.

To keep on topic, conditions were just perfect, will they hold for tomorrow, time will tell I guess, however if the rain they forcast for the next 3 days arrives maybe the coho season will be over on the Vedder for another year. :-\

I heard conditions were not that good this am but got out this afternoon and found them favourable in the Lower.

Found some nice water and a fellow just ahead of me said he had just missed a fish but added it may have been a trout but of course one never knows do they. ;D

My DNE stayed dry.

My sources tell me water clarity was in the 1-1.5 foot range in the am.
Thats correct.

T'aint no fun bushwacking with 3 inches of muck on the bottom of your boots!!!! :'(

The worst thing I have ever seen, (and it will haunt me for all my days) is Golfie sitting on porkchop's chest and riding him down the hill.

Water was ok today 2-3 foot vis below the slides. The rocks along the river are very slippery, but the roads were in excellent condition. No fish seen.

Even with the rain and the snow melt today I was surprised to see the river still fishable in the Lower early this afternoon. Temperature presently at 4. Of course anyones guess how long it will hang on. :-\

Hey, we did that yesterday, and the river through the lower section was fairly dead actually, I saw one person below browne road all the way to the KWR bridge. It was great not having to disturb anyone as we came down with the boats.

Towards the afternoon vis was close to about a foot. My brother got a nice 5 lb bull on roe, and we got nothing...

Levels are too high to effectively fish many parts of the canal, and most people were around lickman area.

We did see two fish caught, so they are in there!

You should talk to Darryl at reaction about the tamahi to vedder bridge drift, there are some rapids to handle, class 2 and 3. I want to take that pontooning class that CHWK river rafting offers, I am totally sold on the pontooning thing! It is soooo awesome.

My brother's Toy is perfect for stacking boats, as he has replaced the box with a plywood platform, and they fit perfectly!

Doing the stretch that we did, it was a bit far and we should have pulled out at the twig... We bypassed alot of water doing that second leg, but that was the point, to see every nook and cranny for return trips. I hate how short the days are right now! :-\

Water is fine through that whole drift, there is really only one swift area right below lickman, where the current hits the campground. There is a sweeper to navigate around, but even with our limited experience we could get past it no prob... The only other part to watch is right at peach where we launched, the heavy water got my heart pounding pretty good!

Above that around the old army camp run / curtains, I was told there is a really bad set of log jams where two kids got trapped on two seperate incidents tubing this summer, one made it and the other one didn't.

So I didn't want to try that before looking at it, cause I  remember it was pretty heavy water with a decent incline last steelhead season...

Cheers,
Nicole

Just checked conditions at Lickman and they were very favourable. Only saw only one angler and he was just coming back from fishing, his report was nothing doing and it was darn windy out there.

Snow now gone in most places on the Valley floor because of the wind overnight.

Conditions were perfect and I was surprised how many were out fishing too. ;D ;D Rain has just started with the freezing level low on the mountains so if it stays there the river should still be satisfactory for the annual Boxing Day Derby.

A little excitement while driving along the dyke 20 minutes ago. A fellow rolled his vehicle over the bank landing on its side. This happened at the North East side of the Keith Wilson Bridge, just as I was going under and up the road, under the bridge.

Some walkers that were passing by rushed to help him and pulled him out, luckily he was not hurt and was concerned about finding his cigarettes before being pulled out. ???

Just checked it at Lickman and it still fishable but I thought it was not as good as yesterday. Raining now and snow melt in progress.

Lots of anglers out due to the Boxing Day Derby, saw about 14 in the Lickman Road parking lot area of the Vedder. CO checking licenses as well.

Saw you briefly while you were floating the river Nicole, definitely inspires me to take the pontoon out there...!!!

Conditions were fishable, and worth it, from what I have been told. Might be on its way out as Chris mentioned.

Happy Holidays to FWR.

Conditions were good today and I fished for 2 hours after a duck hunt at first light where I got 3 nice mallards but found nothing fish wise, except 1 float.

After lunch another 2 hour trip at a different area but nothing there either, fished some good water. Rushed home to get equipment for the evening flight and my day ended poorly as shot awful, 9 shots and only found air. Blaming it on the fairly strong East wind that picked up just as the ducks started coming in.  ??? ::)

So Chris if the fish weren't in those two spots where do you figure they are?  Feel free to PM me as to their exact locastion ( noticed a type-o on the previous word but after looking at it I actually quite like this new fishing term and left it the way it was).  I'm thinking about going up there tomorrow.  ;D

Very nice once again this am but a bit windy. I was able to tussle with one for about 30 seconds before it fell off, was using pro-cured coho roe.

Saw another fellow with one, in the back of his truck. ;D ;D A good number of anglers out enjoying a nice but brisk day. I have a feeling I will get one tomorrow. ;D ;D

Then did a tour of the Lower River changing garbage bags in the Yarrow area, thanks to all that use them and clean up around them, much appreciated. One was full of stripped wire though?

Happy New Year to all members, as well as guests, on FWR and good fishing, I think it may be a productive steelhead year during the next few months.

I think all of you should thank Chris and a few dedicated locals who have been logging in almost daily updates on the Chilliwack River condition. Because of their effort, I'm sure that it has saved us many unnecessary trips (gas and money) when river condition degraded fast.

You can thank him by buying him a double double, but that is not so wise for the sanity of the people who work around him (especially when he puts us to work on bottl/can collection/sorting). ;) A better way to thank him would be to make sure you pick up your own and others' garbage whenever fishing the Chilliwack River. If you have noticed, the lower river (along the Rotary Trail, entrances at Bergman, Browne, railway bridge) all have garbage bags hanging around them. Chris does daily trips to these spots and change these bags when they are filled up. You can help him by keeping litter away from the river and placing them in these bags. Better yet, you can replace these bags if they are full too.

Good luck to all who plan to fish for steelhead in the next five months. Happy New Year.

I did get out and fish today a bit and found condition favorable once again but no success for me but there was some decent fish taken, released, broke off and some others just lost so they are around.

It certainly was a lovely crisp day to get out and enjoy the last of 2007. Had some enjoyable visits with some from this web page and other anglers as well that added to the pleasure of being out on the flow.
