Hi everybody
So the steelhead fishing season is (almost) over. After a difficult start for my first steelhead season (I arrived in BC last December), I finally caught some fish ;D and really really enjoyed float fishing ;D ;D ;D (a new technique for me). For exemple, the last time I went on the river, I missed 2 fish and landed 1 :). I am looking forward the next winter... I will probably try to catch one more fish on the fly but I was wondering what to do next. What are the other fisheries I must not miss in BC? I saw on the forum than some of you are now fishing the lakes, but I am not really excited by fishing stocked lake, what else should I fish during May, june, July and August (during the fall I have a little idea ::)) ?

now it is time to do some Sturgeon fishing, and some Coho fishing and then before you know it it will be time for the big reds and some Barfing on the Fraser.. and some great Spring fishing on the Vedder... plus there are some great lakes all around us that are great fun for Kokanee and trout!!!!!!!

There are many more fantastic fisheries that you must try out during your stay.
Most people are (if not already) going to head to lakes in the interior BC in the next several weeks. The trout fishing in May and June are fantastic. These rainbow trout, unlike the smaller stocked trout in the Lower Mainland, are strong stillwater gamefish. Chrome Mykiss can tell you more about that as he has plenty of experience on it. ;) If you have access to a row boat, pontoon boat or float tube, I would highly recommend you to give it a try. The fish size ranges anywhere from 2lb to 8lb.

You may also want to give saltwater fishing a try on the island in July and August. Connect with Iron Noggin, a member of this forum and FishBC, in Port Alberni if he is not completely booked up already.
The sturgeon fishing has started like Rick said, but I would suggest to give sturgeon fishing a go in September and October as those are the prime months.
Capilano River coho salmon should start anytime now and will be good until early July.
Thompson River rainbow trout starting in early August until the end of the year.
Chinook salmon fishing starts in July on the Chilliwack River.
Then there is the salmon fisheries in the mighty Fraser, but others can tell you about that! ;D

Are the coho in the Capilano River at this time of the year jack? If so what are they doing in the river? Are they waiting for nomally matured females until fall? ???

The Cap has a " special " summer run of cohos.

BC interior lakes are a bit too far for me this year (newborn at home ;D), but I will think about it for next year.
I would be very interested to hire a guide a couple of time during the year to discover some of the great BC fisheries like Sturgeon on the Fraser, Chinook and Halibut on the Island, Steelhead on the Stamp. However, I know nobody here that would like to come with me :-\. If some of you guys are interested (and can stand my awfull english without becoming crazy), do not hesitate to contact me.

Get out a sturgeon fish soon...real hot and if you get hold of Vic at STS he puts groups together for fishing!!

Starts during the month of May, that's if you know where to look. ;) Then you have your fall run coming in during October, which will go until late Oct/ early Nov. ;D

Hey Frenchy, when you are able to pencil down a date, post a request here to see if anyone wants to join you for a guided trip, you just never know. If you want to do the Island, definitely contact Iron Noggin (Matt) by email at mattstabler@shaw.ca as he is incredibly knowledgable when it comes to the fishing but also the fish. It'll be a fun and informative experience.
Vic and his staff at STS Guiding Service is also pretty good as they have been doing this more many years. They also get booked up quite easily especially during the peak season. You may also wish to contact Randog (Randy) on this forum, his guiding service is based in Coquitlam. His email is randy@ultimatesportfishing.ca and website is www.ultimatesportfishing.ca. Some of the people here, including Dragonspeed, did a trip or two with him last year, they may want to comment on this.

Yup. Class act. Great time. We didn't exactly pound on the fish that day, but that's why it's called "fishing" not "catching". We emphasized that we were OK with that.
We did get into a couple of Sturgies though.....Wow! Makes you hungry for more!

Are the reds numerous on the Vedder?
Comparing to the steelhead run for example.

Well, there are a fair amount of them, but from what I have seen, they are a bit smaller than the average size of the Fraser Reds!! ;) Mind you, I did see a fair amount of monsters in there in the last couple of years!! :o ;D Think that the run size would be on par with the Steelhead run in a good season, it is just that the season doesn't last near as long as the steelhead season!!
