strange sight while fishing
« on: September 03, 2006, 09:48:09 PM »

while fishing a smaller bar with around 10 people on it today I looked to the far end and saw something crawling out of the water right in front of the last angler in line, at first I thought it was an otter but when it came out of the water we could see it was a fair sized beaver, at this point everybody stopped fishing to watch this strange little creature climb up the bar and walk the whole bar length only a few feet behind us, when he got down to my end he started making a b-line right for me, at the time I had thoughts of being attacked by a rabid beaver, but he wasnt foaming at the mouth, and just walked straight past me without a fear in the world and slipped back into the water. One guy got some pics but unfortunatly I left my camera at the campsite.

Beaver are quite common on the Fraser,if you in an area where there is not a lot of people they will show up. Last week i was on a small bar with 2 other guys and one was eating breakfast 40 ft from us. After it finished stripping the branch of its bark it proceeded to swim past me about 5 ft out. Most folks don't realize how big adult  beavers really are.

Saw a coyote on the opposite side of the river with a salmon in it mouth happily trotting off to take care of some dinner plans that evening.
