Need information of micro chip in hatchery coho

Caught a hatchery coho in Vedder. found an implanted chip at the belly side by the anal fin. the wound mark shows the chip is not inhaled by the fish.

May someone tell me what this chip is about. I would like to return it if it is for the salmon migration research.

PIT tag, normally we injected them in the back near the dorsal fin, but I did work for DFO one year on the island where we put them into the meat near the pelvic fins. If it was free floating in the body cavity, it was a poor placement.

Not sure why they would be tagging hatchery coho. Normally a tag that size is one that would get scanned with a reader while in hand, rather than one that gets picked up on arrays while swimming up.

I didn’t get vaxed because of the microchips.

And now I can’t harvest hatchery coho either.  :'(
