I am looking for a new rod and would really appreciate any opinions that you might have.
I am looking to spend less than $300.00 on a new or slightly used baitcasting rod.
I will be using this rod for the Vedder primarily steelhead and coho but the rod must be strong enough for the springs.
I was told once to look for a rod with 3 guides on the butt section but have not found many that are in my price range.
I am open to any suggestions and help you may offer.
Thank you I look forward to your replies. ;D

Talk to Russ At RA Striker Rod and Reel .ca

thanks I have spoken with Stryker on the phone and plan too see him at the sportsmans show....

How about looking at Lamiglas. They would have a factory built rod with warranty around your price. I think the series is called "Certified Pro". I think they will be at the Abbotsford sportsman show with a complete booth of their rods.

Maybe you could tell us what type of reel you will be pairing it up with.

casting rod i'd go with a st.criox or a loomis if u can get a deal. Stay away from the new fenwicks, they aren't built in canada anymore(china). Not as high of a quality, but if u can get on older used model it'll be fine. Trophies are nice too!

Fenwick rods have been built outside of North america for the last 15 years or so. Nothing really new about not being made in canada any longer.

thanks guys :)
anymore suggestions?

you can get into a loomis starting about $270 or you can get a cheaper rod like the trophy which are also a great rod for the $$$,i've got a light action baitcaster 8-17lbs rating from trophy and it's been great for everything as you described.

bug pumper has a st criox wild river seris...i think its 8-12 and has a beatiful action, nice rod with a nice even bend and a very light tip i'd say. I think he paid under $135 including taxes. I have never fished the fenwick HMX rods but they look pretty nice from the ones I have seen.
I have bought a number of lamiglas blanks (factory firsts), some for as little as $35us each. Lamiglas makes some great rods. they have have a charcoal grey series that I have built several different models in...I love each one. as a blank, they were from the GSH series and available in length of 10.5-12' and line classes 8-12, 8-17, and 15-25. As blanks I paid $35-$65 each. I think the GSH (graphite steelhead) is cheaper than the Certified Pro.
Definitely I think the 8-17lb range would be the best for the target species you listed.
Good luck
