Title: sturgy , tidal
Post by: hrenya on June 21, 2015, 10:21:05 PM
did anyone have a situation when you hook a 7+feet sturgeon , he jumped 2 to 3 times , runs for a bit and then it feels like a snag .
my buddy told me that sometimes they do that and all you need to do is just wait till they start moving again .
but today it took over an hour and he didn't move , after pulling and just about to say goodbye to gear , all was returned back , but hook was bent .
any suggestions how to act in this kind of situations ? its not a first time its happening to me .
(100lbs main/80leader)

Big sturgeon are very good at finding structure and tangling up in it.  I have lost many big fish that seem to know exactly where to go, to free themselves....  Not a lot you can do, little bit of luck is involved landing the big guys. I like minimum 100lb mono leader and 150lb braid mainline. Try to keep em off the bottom as much as possible.
