Shore crab as bait?

A few days ago someone suggested using little shore crabs as bait.  Has anyone had any success with that?

Shore crabs with their hard shells look a lot less tasty than a juicy worm.  On the other hand, I've heard of people using crayfish which also look hard to swallow.

Says here shore crabs are closed to fishing in area 28 and 29 so check the regs before you head out.

Used to use them for large perch as a kid worked great.

Never had success with shore crabs as bait though I heard they work well for the larger sea perch. Can't harvest them in the Lower Mainland anyways. Piling/sea worms are an excellent alternative if you are targeting perch, greenlings, and/or flounder.
