Title: Millions of federal money for BC salmon
Post by: Morty on June 05, 2009, 08:32:19 PM
According to recent press, Mr. Ignatieff is pressing for an election call.  If so, we each have a refreshed opportunity to revive the wild salmon protection issue with our MP's and candidate hopefuls.

General Motors just got billions of federal and provincial government support to help sustain their business.  The justification stated included:
- survival is directly or indirectly connected to hundreds of jobs
- protection of support businesses
- effects on local economies
they further added that the announcement was a regrettable, but necessary..
All the reasons for the GM backing can certainly be applied to wild salmon and the BC economy.

I'm not expecting that Ottawa is going to throw billions of dollars at this, but we can each certainly use these arguments to make wild salmon protection an issue that's continually before our politicians.

A summer election during salmon runs could be great for our cause.

Latest public opinion is that over 68% of the people polled don't want a summer federal election.
