The diesel spills from sunken boats in some of the native harbours don't make the news so much and they don't get stuck with the bill. Seen this a few times. Spills are bad there is not doubt and wether its a sinking boat or a sleepy person it should not happen. This one is just typically news worthy but far from a representation of spills that happen on the coast.
