Title: Looking for feedback on the Vedder River Camp ground
Post by: Gooey on June 05, 2006, 09:57:32 AM
Hi Gang,

I am thinking of taking my young family (a wife who has never camped before and our 3 and 4 year old sons) out to the VRCG...the one across from bergman/lickman area.

Anyone ever been there?  Is there much to do at that specific location for a family like mine?  While I don't think its right on the river is it close enough so we could walk down?    Is there any good river area there (ie not too steep/rocky a shoreline and not too swift a current) where we could take kids down to the water to goof around?

aNy feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Gooey

Hey Gooey,
Above is a link. It is a fantastic camp site, especially when fishing is good.
Lots of trails, play areas, bicycling trails, close to shops and restaurants. It is avery safe camp ground, for all ages. You should call them for reservations, though.
Enjoy.
I'm sure you will be back in October when the fishing is good.

Thanks Nostro, I quickly looked at the web site this AM.  Is it like the chehalis camp ground - right in the woods or is it a more open less "bushy" camp ground?  I guess with my family being first timers, it really doesn't matter but I am just curious.

Am I correct in saying the vedder has all those "pesky" residualized steelhead smolts in the river in June (would be great fun for my young boys)?

Thanks

The Vedder is closed until July 1.
But the camp ground is still a great place to take your family. There are wilderness sites, open sites, sites for large groups, whatever. Eve if you can't fish until July 1, you can spend the time in scouting out some good areas and ways of accessing these areas, in preparation for the red springs and coho seasons.

Cultus Lake campgrounds are much better that time of the year. The Vedder water levels may be high so be careful with the kids.
