Broken Fly Rod
« on: February 20, 2005, 10:03:23 PM »

Okay a long shot...

I snapped my 5wt. Scientific Angler rod (fighting a fish and not in the car door thank god) and wondering if anyone has heard of getting a replacement piece. It snapped just above the actual break. I thought that the top piece had pulled out until I looked closer and the rod busted.

Still got the fish in (Dollie) and let it go to fight another day.

thanks!

2 options:

1) Try bringing it back to the dealer. If it is covered by warranty you should be able to get a replacement.

2) Bring it to Brian Ford at West Coast Tackle for repairs.

Thanks Fish Assasin - I've heard good things about him. I wanted to replace the rod at one point and get a new one such as a Sage and keep the SA as a backup - now I really need to get moving.

Otherwise its off to the Sportsman Show in a couple weeks.

Brian custom makes my rod. He also repairs rods for the fishing lodges in the Queen Charlottes after the fishing season.

If you going to get a new fly rod, i don;t suggest a custom build. Yes, it might cost you little cheaper to buy at the starts but in a long run, Factory is always better. Like your case, you just have to send some money for S/H and get a new tip.. But if you get it custom, you have to pay S/H and the labor to re build your rod, unless you know rod building but still its a waste of time. But like FA said, bring it to West Coast, Brain should be able to give your some advices. good luck fishing
