After many years, and countless cutthroat, bass, walleye and panfish, my venerable spinning has gone to that great dusty shelf in the sky.

With the upcoming tackleshop sales, and with cash earmarked for my fishing fund from my birthday, I hope to get another. Looking for a quality light/ultra light reel (capacity 6 lbs/ 180 yards or less) that is anodized for my saltwater forays.

Recommendations welcome.

I guess it comes down to how much do you want to spend??

DO you want cheap or high end?

I prefer intermediate strong reels that have a long life. I usually go for Shimano or Daiwa and believe they're the best reels in the market. Also you might want to consider what gear ratio you want for the reel? Do you want fast or slow? I myself prefer the drag on the top of the reel, much more convenient. Also do you want spare spools for changing lines?

Go for a diawa they are better >< lol i like them better then shimano because they are generally cheaper with the same performance if not better.  but then if your looking for a rear drag reel... why go for a UL one. if your going for a UL spinning reel, make it FD. dont really have a reason for this. but ya hehe. or buy that one that rod has for 100 bux.. with 3 bball.. that reel is sexy looking.

IF you just want something cheap to fish with go for Okuma-Epixor or higher model ($100-$150). IF you want something high performance Shimano- Stella ($450-$1000).  If you just want high performance as well as the " Bling, Bling" Go for the VanStall- VS spinning reel ($600+).

If you guys don't know Stella they're like the porsche of spinning reels........

Thanks all for your comments. Guess I have a little edukashun to get in the spinning reel department. What Steelhead King calls as cheap in the $100-$150 range I was thinking would be a quality reel. $1,000 for a reel? I gotta get out more (but not on this family man's budget!)

Clarki, don't be intimidated by Steelhead King's price range, his belief is, "If you can't catch fish, at least you can look good."

$100 - $150 is a very reasonable price range, but why rear drag reels?

Rear drags, I've had good experienced when using them for dollies, cutties and rainbows, oh and bass. However, they are a bit fragile when it comes to pinks and coho. On the other hand, I have had really good experience with front drag reels for salmonids.
