so ill be going to hope near end of july
ill probably fly fish but will do spinning as well
whats a good place to fish in hope?
prefer shore fishing
thanks
-
You could try jones lake.
-
Kawkawa Lake offers great kokanee fishing. You would need a boat.
-
The Fraser is in freshet then so unless you want to floss spinning or flyfishing at the nearby creek mouths where clear water enters is your best bet as passing salmon will pull in and clear out their gills. I would suggest buying a copy of Fishing The Fraser River from Mission to Hope which has directions etc to the various bars etc in the area and go do some exploring.
-
what aboutskagit river its near hope isnt it ?
-
The Skagit River might start shaping up depending on how late you go in July (it's usually quite high still in early July), but it's still about a 1 to 1.5 hr drive up the FSR. You might have some luck up at Silver Lake if you're limited to fishing from shore.
-
End of July pretty much like 26 or 27 to the 2 of August
It's an hour drive wow cupcakes....... Lol
-
Emory Creek looks good
And the coqohalla river
-
Skagit is your best bet in the area. Silver lake fishing the inflow of Silverhope creek (where the creek dumps into the lake) could also do you some good but please be gentle with the odd summer steelhead that roam the area that time of year. remember the outflow creek mouth is closed to fishing.
Personally I would do the Skagit. head all the way to the lake and then work your way back hunting for Bull trout and small rainbows. I target the big bulls with heavy flies off a dry line, spoons are also great for them. Deep holes and structure will be your hunting grounds to find them. Rainbows I like best using small nymphs up to size 8 under an indicator, dry flies can also be great but wait until you see fish rising. The rainbows can be found almost anywhere from knee deep water to the edges of big deep holes.
If your not a tiny little dude you should be able to wade many areas of this river however there is ALOT of runs you can fish without needing to cross the river. tailouts are where you want to cross
-
That's hook I appreciate the help
I'll try it out I like planning ahead
-
What sizes flies for bulls?
-
It can range depending on their mood of course. Have flies ranging from small size 6 all white clousers up to 4-6" bunny leeches in muted colours (olive, white, black, blue - adding a hint of orange or red can also be helpful)
you want movement and weight for Bull flies. Heavy to reach the bottom where they sit and then lots of movement to entice them to attack it because they think its alive.
This is my largest Bull on the Skagit so far. caught him on an olive/white double bunny pattern

Good Luck

-
Ah crap I'm going June 27 Skagit is closed until the June 30
Well I guess I got to cut that out
Man!!!! Vedder is closed closed also June 1 to the 30
I only only fly fish but it says fly fishing may 1 to 30 under somewhere don't know I guess I got the Fraser up in hope
-
Lightning Lakes at Manning Park have lots of small'ish, agreeable, trout
-
jones
-
Lighting lakes are like 1 hr away from bridal falls
Jones Lake isn't far as I think.
But how's the shore fishing? Is it productive?

I have only known people that took some sort of floating craft. It's July !!! just use a bloody floating mattress to fish from or inner tube
-
All a float tube is is a fancy inner tube you cannot fall through.
Or its a V shaped modern thing that resembles a mini pontoon
-
Lol its not the reason I don't have a belly boat or a tube it's that my dad doesn't want to go on a belly boat or tube
I definitely would if I was allowed
-
Went to jones a two mays ago, had a boat but found fishing to better from shore just casting out worms and letting them sit in the bottom, some nice cutties
-
Thanks maybe I'll I'll take my spinning rod as well
-
What about scale bar I checked the regs for that no closures so I guess good
But is there any fish running in scale bar in June 27
Thanks
-
Anyone know how good or how bad the road to Jones is ? I have a mini van
-

Scale bar will most likely be under water still. Plus you have the 3km walk to get there and back. I'm not sure the name but there is a bar below the bridge in Hope you can fish from that I think should have some dry land to stand on. There is Chinook in the Fraser now and will still be moving through then (pretty sure its the only species open that's in the river)
-
Chinook ARE NOT open at that time, DFO will announce an opening date for them later, probably around July 15.
-
Hey hook I'll ask some tackle shops
And if it is closed can you still catch and release?
Thanks

My bad !!
they are usually open by then. I don't fish for them in the Fraser so I never bother to check. I still remember when they opened May 1st every year :(

For salmon in freshwater why not go to the regulations - http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/fresh-douce/region2-eng.html
Check this one for latest openings/closures/restrictions - http://www-ops2.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fns-sap/index-eng.cfm?CFID=7860561&CFTOKEN=21186458
Freshwater regs. - http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/regulations/
You should add these to your favourites, beats always asking here and maybe getting the wrong info.

Anybody fish the coquihalla river Upstream of the lower entrance to the lower railway tunnel: (a) no fishing Nov 1 - June 30; (b) fly fishing only, single barless hook, and bait ban
So it's closed to gear but open to fly fishing anybody fish here on shore with any luck?

Thought you said you were fishing June 27? ::)
-
i am fishing june 27
on that bbox it said
Upstream of the lower entrance to the lower railway tunnel: (a) no fishing Nov 1 - June 30; (b) fly fishing only, single barless
hook, and bait ban
so i guess you are allowed to fish then fly fishing only? maybe im not understanding this properly ??? if it is closed why do they mention fly fishing only ???

Yes fly fishing only, but the coq has no fish in it anyways.

By no fishing Nov 1-June 30 it means that the river is closed to all types of fishing from Nov 1 - June 30.
by fly fishing only, single barbless etc... it means when the river is open from July 1 - Oct 31 it is fly fishing only.
The regs can be a little confusing. It is always good to ask for clarification like you did if you are unsure!
-
oh ok thanks ya it was kinda confusing
i guess theres not to many or not at all except the fraser
thats open in june
kinda sucks
-
I wasn't going to say anything however I feel I should share because people are trying to mislead you and a river without friends is a river without protection. River opens above the tunnels June 5th 2014, 2015
http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/regulations/changes/1315/region2.html
Fly only means no indicators and no external weight of any kind.

You might want to re-read that Hook before trying to tell us we're all wrong.... You must wonder why you're all alone on the river till July 1st eh :P
"Effective Dates" means the time at which the new regs (which opened the coq) took effect. This means that our July 1 opener only runs to 2015... it's a trial run. This July 1 opening first came into effect on June 2013. The upper coq is NOT open June 5 until March 31....
-
Well I just read that coq river change I don't understand it says
In-Season Change
No fishing Nov 1 to June 30
Fly fishing only when open
Effective Dates
June 5, 2013 to March 31, 2015
Coquihalla River - Upstream of the lower railway tunnel. (tributaries remain closed)
It says both the same dates for the closure and said fly fishing kinda weird
-
Ya even if it is open on those dates I would probably still go and fish even if there's no fish lol
-
Well I just read that coq river change I don't understand it says
I just explained it above... Do you even read any replies you get or the regs?
The regulations (in season changes) are highlighted in bold. The effective dates (listed beside the in season changes) are not in bold, do not follow those. The effective dates are when the new regulation came into effect. In this case, the new regulation change opens the coq JULY 1, this JULY 1 opening first came into effect June 5, 2013.
In short, don't fish the coq before July 1....
-
Take a deep breath ED ;D. He's one of those guys that expects everyone else to do all. the work for him.

Did you read my post when I said I read the regulations but didn't understand?
-
I really hope someone has gone out there and REMOVED ALL the signs posted on trees stating the opening as June 5th until 2015.
I didn't really read my link over but added it for anyone looking (it is a little confusing though!!) ::)
HOOK - knows exactly where one of those signs is by the road and may stop Saturday to see if its there, if it is then take a picture of it and possibly the people fishing nearby.....................
-
Did you read my post when I said I read the regulations but didn't understand?
I did read it, what baffles me is I had explained it directly above that exact post. Like I said, you obviously don't read the posts, or you don't like what you see and try to interpret it a different way in the regs.
I really hope someone has gone out there and REMOVED ALL the signs posted on trees stating the opening as June 5th until 2015.
Hook... I would be willing to bet that those signs say the EXACT same thing as the on-line regulations do (only because I've seen them). It says "Effective Date" on those as well... and then lists the opening of July 1st, followed by the fly fish only regulation below that, and the bait ban, etc. I don't get why it's so hard to understand the difference between effective date and the in-season change?

Schkam Lake or Wood Lake just a km or 2 north on Hwy 1 (The Fraser Canyon) is a nice clear blue lake, still stocked with trout. There used to be a Motel at the north end that rented boats. It was possible to fish from shore though the bank by the highway is steep with maybe one place to stop.
-------------------------------------------------
Koifish - the Coq is closed. If it were open I would say you are not ready to fish a river such as that. I don't know if they are still open but Cheyenne Sports in Hope used to be a good source for info and some tackle. Try phoning them : (604) 869-5062
-
Hey Ralph I'll check that lake out
I went to green timbers yesterday no luck
-
anybody know how to get to emory creek or american creekk?
i loked but no luck and lastly i tried findif the regs for those places but its not coming up on the book anyone know why?
-
Read the regional regs. All the info on those two creeks you need is there.
-
thanks i found it but now i need to know is how to get there
-
Drive down the Lougheed outside of hope. They both get crossed by the highway. Both are canyon rivers, access is tough, and both are very dependant on water height since they are small rivers/creeks. Not sure of returns of fish, they might get some, they might not, check em out!
P.s. If you do find fish in them, I'd recommend not posting about it. Small rivers shouldn't be talked about online.
-
thanks i think there will be good water height but i may need some bear spray incase lol
-
Emory and American cross the Trans Canada (Highway #1) north of Hope. Koifish try googling this kind of info first:
http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/emory_crk/
you'll get the information faster. You will need a car or a ride. American Creek is a few km north of Lake of the woods.
