AMBLESIDE< SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 25...GET OUT FISHIN NOW!!!
« on: September 25, 2005, 01:02:39 PM »

FISHING IS HOT OFF AMBLESIDE>>>>>

YOU GUYS HAVE TO GET OUT FISHING!!!!

I got out with my friend Dean today and we hit the Cap at first light until 1040 am at which point it was time to come back to pick up more passengers. The tide was flooding, and the water was calm---a nice reprieve from the afternoon North Westerlies we have been enduring recently.

We were aboard his  24 foot Bayliner Trophy Sedan.

We dropped in and promptly picked up a 24 lber. NICE START!! ;D
We continued trolling and picked up a 22 lber.  ;D  ;D
followed by...a 20 lber!  ;D  ;D  ;D
and then on a GREEN GLO FLOW COYOTE SPOON at 60 feet, another 22 lber!  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

We also released an undersized jack.

We also missed on a possible double header hookup, and we missed about 3 other good hits.

Sorry to say, but I guess my Cinderella story is up, as I am back to work tomorrow and I will become---a weekend fisher. Oh well, all good things must come to an end.

So...for those that aren't yet in the know, fish right off the bottom....anchovies are the TICKET!!!!!!

We all our fish deeper than 65 feet.

Thanks for the report FM. I should have taken your advice. I got skunked fishing Sandheads 9 to 11 am today. 6 other boats. I ddidn't see anyone get a hit. I would have stayed out longer but I got hungry.

I just got back from the Vanier Park Launch..and I saw 5 guys with nothing...I talked to them to figure out why..and NONE of them were fishing on the bottom..

THAT is the key.

Flashers with those 'chovies...YES. HOWEVER....there are 2 guide boats out there that are NOT running flashers, and they are fishing it just the same. They are getting a better fight out of the fish by far as they take many long runs, not just one long run followed by a few short ones.

REGULAR DISTANCE off the release clip, anywhere from 10 to 20 feet.

Leader length? TAKE YOUR PICK! generally anywhere from 7 to 9 feet. You have to adjust your leader length depending on what is the daily preference---sometimes they like it short...sometimes not.

That's all!!!!

The Pier is way too full with bottom fishers, and it is kinda shallow, and you would need a long long rod to cast the distance required.

You can wade to the bar at low low tide, but that is dangerous if the tide comes in too far....can't really say if they are getting much now because in the boat, I have been way too busy running the gear and dodging other boats.

I know that people have successfully caught springs off the totem pole groyne, cast in a south west direction off that area, try to cast at least 100 feet.

that's all I know,

Alot of the fish hanging around the mouth would have moved into the rivers.
