Hello all,
I've been using 3M Scientific Anglers 8 weight Steelhead Taper fly line (floating) for the last 3 years for my salmon/steehead setup. I basically cut the line back and attach a loop connector - then use a variety of sink tips (Rio Tips). This system works great.
BUT:
I find that my line gets cracked very easily. Within one year, the line got cracked and difficult to use. I took it back to the shop (Berry's Bait & Tackle) and to their credit, gave me a brand new line right off the rack. So - I've been using the "new" line since the beginning of last season (2003) and again - now it's cracked and getting difficult to use. So, my question is:
Can anybody recommend a good quality fly line (dry) that I can use for my salmon/steelhead setup? I heard Rio might have a warranty against cracking for 5 years - is this true? Any thoughts?

i think only Airflow got the 5 years crack free warrenty.

Cortland= good
To clarify, Cortland 555 floating = crap, from what I've heard. 444SL are supposed to be good, though I don't own either so take this with a grain of salt.
Airflo Polyfuse 7000 has a 5 year no-crack guarantee. Berry's sells them, and probably lots of other fly shops too. M&Y can special order them.

Yes - Airflo is starting to ring a bell. Thanks!

I've always used the 444 series and found it to be good. Storage and dessing after each use makes a difference too.

Wulff Steelhead Triangle Taper . Best line out there .

Cortland 444 I find the extra$ for SL not worth it and the 555 i have tried are CRAP - way too much memory and don't seem very slick.
