DNE float blows up today
« on: October 05, 2006, 07:49:50 PM »

Been using these after reading about the stealth's leaking...wish I would have brought one to try today..but forgot...took only DNE's...when I hooked into a big chum that went nuts... When he finally busted off I noticed the DNE was toast too...the line had cut up halfway into the float..Now this wasn't a long hard fought battle...A good battle for sure..he was out of the water back and forth across the river..but I wasn't yarding on him or horsing him at all....He was off in maybe two minutes, so I was pretty disappointed to find the float shredded so easily...Still hard pressed to beat the good old dink floats...

I've been using the "CNC Distributors Balsa Floats", they work great for me....anyone else used these? How do they compare to a drennan or these new stealths? I just found a drennan the other day might just throw it on the line for a bit next trip....

I've never seen or heard of a balsa float doing that. The balsa float I'm currently using is in it's second season. I'm surprise that it lasted this long.

???
I don't see how it can blow up since there is no pressure on the float. The line goes through the float, with stoppers above and below.
I'm puzzled. ??? ???

it appears that the process of fighting the chum bashed the float against possibly some rocks.

How are their hooks?
Sure look like serious units!

I've used their hooks.  Modelled after the Owner's.  Seem to work pretty well, quite sharp and hold well and strong enough.  And for the price, they're a pretty good deal.

I can see it happening to a wrap type, but DNE are all straight thru. I have used the same DNE on four trips and landed over 40 fish and it still looks new. Your description of your float after a fight with a chum is so out of the ordinary that I find it implausible. Something really strange must have happened.

My DNE is foam...not balsa wood, didn't bash on any rocks, it's a straight through one...only thing that I can guess that happened is it hung up on one of the float stops....then the line sliced right through the foam...it's not that hard to do, just surprised that it did it so quickly on such a short fight...

Matter of fact I'm almost certain that's what happened...Don't know if the hole on the top or bottom stretches with use? I do know that now that I think about it,,it was hanging up the odd time on the drennan stop...So that's most likely what happened...
