Fraser River - June 22, 2008
« on: June 23, 2008, 07:39:04 PM »

Decided late in the day to head for some sturgeon and use the few eulachons that I had left in the freezer. Launched from Catherwood and started off fishing just above Hatzic Hole at the tail end of what I assume was a large underwater bar about 50 feet from shore maybe 18-20 feet of water. In no time at all, (beer helps to pass the time) we had a ripper grab hold of the number one rod. Great fight for about 5-10 minutes as we muscled in a what turned out to be a skinny 5 footer, but man he was angry and let us know. Got knocked in the head while trying to de-hook him as he had swallowed everything including 2 inches of leader!!! After that things cooled right off with not even a nibble. Moved to a few other spots working upriver to-wards the mouth of the Vedder; small hits but nothing hooked and much to choppy once the wind came up so we headed back down to just about the hole again. An hour later and we were out of beer, sunburnt and happy that we had put at least one in the boat. All in all turned out to be a perfect day.
